1. يا أيها الغادي على

    وجناءَ تامكِة السَّنامِ

    O you who passes by

    The well-built, complete walls

  2. من عيسِ مهرةَ بازلٍ

    عوجاء مؤجَدة العظامِ

    Of Isa, an experienced builder

    Of twisted, solid bones

  3. غلباءَ مائرةِ اليَديْ

    نِ كأنَّها فحلُ النعامِ

    With hands that bend as if they were the legs of an ostrich

    Who remembered her eggs

  4. صَعلٍ تذكَّرَ بيضهُ

    بأمقَّ أو عَسَ ذي يمام

    At Amá or the nest of Yamáma's dove

    So she walked away worried

  5. فصَرا فراحَ مُهِمْلجاً

    مستقبلاً وجهَ الظلامِ

    Facing the darkness

    Driven by the hissing of Hajaf

  6. يُزجيهِ حاصبُ حرجف

    ومجَلجل صلقِ الغَمامِ

    And the rumbling clouds overhead

    Is that you or a shaggy hyena

  7. أفذاك أم جَأبٌ اقبُّ

    مصلصلٌ صلب الحوامى

    Howling, hard rocks

    Whose ugliness shone

  8. من حُقب عور لاحه

    برح النظارة ذو الفطامِ

    When the milk teeth fell out

    Galloping to the meadows

  9. يحدو نحائض وقَّحا

    لمُطَحلب الأرجاء طامي

    Spreading far and wide

    So I welcomed him

  10. فوردتهُ بنقيَّةٍ

    وردَ الظماء من الحمامِ

    With spears, from cisterns of water

    And found, by the law, a straight shooter

  11. ولدى الشريعة قانِص

    ما زالُ يرزقُ بالسهامِ

    Who still feeds on arrows

    Wearing a coat of mail

  12. متولجٌ متوشق الِسّربالِ

    منخرق اللثام

    With a ripped covering

    Until, when it jangled

  13. حتى إذا خضخضُنُه

    ونسَخن وضعاً للأوامِ

    And rang the bells for camels

    He rushed to his spring

  14. اهوى لنبعته ليَس

    قي بعضها كأس الحمامِ

    To drink some like a pigeon drinks

    He threw and missed, and fate

  15. ورمَى فأخطأ والمقدَّ

    رُ كائِن بَينَ الأنامِ

    Lies between people

    The sand grouse rose, striking the ground

  16. فانصعن يرضخنَ البرا

    ق بوقَّح سود ظوامي

    With the black crow's tent pegs

    Is that you or a frightened oryx

  17. أفذاك أم ربُدُ الشوا

    مت اسحم الرَّوقين سامِ

    With the two slender, dark horns

    From a beast and a fearsome lair

  18. من وحش وجرة يختلي

    سعدان من طرفي سجامِ

    Happy from the sides of spearheads

    The darkness threw its cloak on him

  19. القى الظلام عليه شم

    لته بذي عجم زكامِ

    And choked him with dumb mumps

    So he slipped into deep darkness

  20. فلجا لأرطاةٍ والجأ

    ه لها صوب الغَمامِ

    And took cover in the clouds

    He kept digging while the ruin

  21. ما زال يحفر والكثي

    ب عليه يمعِن في انِهدامِ

    Kept collapsing on him

    And the frogs hit him

  22. والوَدق يخبطه كما أنْ

    خرَط الجمان من النظامِ

    Like the ringing of wet wood

    Until when the darkness cleared

  23. حتى اذا انجاب الظلا

    م ولاحَ ازهر ذو قرامِ

    And the blossoms of the gum tree appeared

    It came to him suddenly

  24. فاجاه للقدر المتا

    حِ مغرَّث بغر الحسامِ

    A steaming pot with hot swords

    Racing with five dogs

  25. يَسعى بخمسةِ أكلبٍ

    غُضف مهرَّتة ظئامِ

    With vicious, rabid fangs

    So the youth escaped while the others

  26. فنجا الشبوب وثبته

    نَ عليه بث الانتقامِ

    Remained busy seeking vengeance

    Then he turned back, slipping away

  27. فانصبَّ ينسلب انسلا

    ب الظبي فزَّع بالزحامِ

    The fleeing gazelle startled the crowds

    Until when they caught up with him

  28. حتى إذا ادركنه

    أو كدن وهو يمرَّ حامِ

    As he passed in haste

    The brave one threw the tent pole at him

  29. واعتاده أنَفُ الكري

    مِ فكرَّ كالبطل المحامي

    So he fell, collapsing with pain

    He ripped him in the chest

  30. فرمى العمودَ بضمه

    فهوى وعاج إلى سمامِ

    With a strong, solid spear

    And finished him off, washing his spear

  31. فاشتكّه في صدرِ اس

    حمِ لِهذماً صعب المرامِ

    In his blood, staining it red

    Then he shone as he tore through

  32. فقضى عليه وناطَ نا

    طف في مباري الرمح دامي

    His garment's dusty rags

    Convey to the ruler of Hijaz

  33. ثم اشمعلَّ يشقُّ في

    وجفانه ثوبَ الرغامِ

    If you reach the glorious king

    Who defeated tyrants and routed

  34. فطوى الكثاكث والعثا

    عث والمدامث والموامي

    The ferocious army

    Second to none when angry

  35. ابلغ وشاحاً إن بلغْ

    تَ الوكةَ الملك الهمامِ

    And third with sharp swords

    Crushing the Arameans and walls

  36. مُجلي الطغاة عن البلا

    دِ وهازم الجيش اللَّهامِ

    And fortresses and towering buildings

    How he overpowered the powerful

  37. ثاني الغمام وثالث ال

    صمصامة العضب الحسام

    In the heat of battle

    How he rammed the boulder

  38. ومطحطح الآرام وال

    أسوار والقلع العظامِ

    Falling solidified in its tracks

    Courage is not like cowardice

  39. كم ذا تغالب أغلبا

    الوي الدَّ لدى الخصامِ

    Nor the brave like the grasping

    It is as if I see you

  40. كم ذا تناطح صخرة

    تهوى مجلمدة الرَّضامِ

    Having drunk cups of pigeons

    I still forgive you

  41. ليس الرئالة كالهِزبر

    ولا المصمّم كالكهامِ

    Forgiveness is the mark of nobility

    And my patience indicates

  42. فكأنني بكم وقد

    جرعتم غصص الحمامِ

    My nobility, like a Tatam or Qatam

    So fear my punishment and beware

  43. لا زلت اصفح عنكم

    والصفح من شيم الكرامِ

    My wrath, for I take revenge

    And send blessings upon

  44. ويدلكم حلمي عل

    تّيَ دلال خولة أو قطامِ

    The Prophet and his family—

    The purest prayer and peace.

  45. فاخشوا عقابي واحذروا

    سَخطي فإني ذو انتقامِ

  46. وعلى النبيّ وآله

    أزكى الصلاة مع السلامِ
