How beautiful—unadorned, yet adorned with beauty—

a black one whose children Time heals from her mouth.

But when her children’s natures are compared

with those of this world’s children, they prove unlike them.

If suckled, they encounter toil; and if they are weaned,

    weaning immediately elevates their condition.

Mute—yet when their noses bleed, they speak,

and describe the world and all within it most beautifully.
