بأبي حبيبٌ كلّما عانقته

عادت اليّ شبيبتي بعناقهِ

My father be the ransom of a beloved—whenever I embrace him,

my youth returns to me in his embrace.

كالراح يجمع بين طيب نسيمه

وبهاء منظره وطيب مذاقه

Like wine, he gathers together the sweetness of his fragrance,

the splendor of his appearance, and the delight of his taste.

أخلاقه نُزهُ القلوب وبالحَرِي

أن يستعير الروض من اخلاقه

His virtues are the hearts’ pleasure grounds—and it is only fitting

that the garden should borrow from his virtues.

أيقنتُ أن لا عيش غيرُ لقائه

أبداً وأن لا موتَ غيرُ فراقه

I have become certain there is no life but meeting him,

ever—and no death but separation from him.
