فإذا أضفتُ الى التنفس عَبرةً
فالجوُّ نارٌ والبسيطة ماءُ
When I add a sigh to my breath,
The air is fire and the ground is water.
كم أندبُ القُرناء شَجواً والصِّبا
فاتَ الصِّبا وتفرَّقَ القُرناءُ
How I mourn the youthful friends in anguish,
Yet the youth is gone and the friends scattered.
والجمع مَع فقد الشَّبيبة بيننا
قبل الممات مُرُوَّةٌ عذراءُ
In our gathering after the loss of youth between us
Is a virgin widowhood before death.
