قد كنتُ أرجوك للبلوى إذا عرضت

فصرتُ أخشاك والأيامَ للغِيَرِ

I used to hope for you when troubles came

But now I fear you and time for others

أخشى وحكميَ أن ارجو ولا عجب

وربَّما يتأذَّى الروضُ بالمَطَرِ

I fear yet hope, no wonder in that

Sometimes the garden is harmed by the rain
