1. فرِق الفراقُ لطولِ ما نَتَلاقى

    من أن أصُبَّ على الفراق فراقا

    Prolonged separation has intensified the pangs of parting

    So much so I've become overly sensitive to separation

  2. فعلام تحسبُني الوشاة مُنَزَّها

    في الشوق عما يتلفُ المشتاقا

    Why do the slanderers think I've become aloof

    From the yearning that torments the ardent lover

  3. أوَ ما يرونَ الجفَنَ خاطب لوعةٍ

    بكرٍ وقد بذل الدموع صداقا

    Don't they see the eyelids address the agony

    Of an innocent whose tears have paid the price of loyalty

  4. يا عين إن لم يكفهم أن تسكبي

    دمعاً فذوبي واسكبي الآماقا

    Oh eye! If shedding copious tears doesn't satisfy them

    Melt away and spill the reservoirs

  5. تَرَك اصفراري والنحولُ كلاهما

    في العشق جسمي يُنذِرُ العَشَّاقا

    My emaciation and pallor have both

    Given away my body's secret love to the impassioned

  6. فكأنَّهُ أَلِفٌ بِخَطٍ مُذهَبٍ

    جَعَلَ الدُّجى أرقي له ورّاقا

    As if it were gilt calligraphy

    That made the darkness more gentle and bright

  7. لام الحسودُ وقالَ دَع عنكَ الهوى

    ليزيدني بملامِه أشواقا

    The envious blamed me, saying: "Abandon this passion!"

    Only increasing my longing through blame

  8. وعزيزةٍ قالت مقال مُجَرّبٍ

    ساوى الحكيمَ بفَهمِه أو فاقا

    A wise lady spoke measured words:

    "Consider the wise man equal to or above his wisdom"

  9. كم مُضمرٍ كيداً إِذا جالَستَهُ

    أبدى الخُنُوَّ وأظهر الإشفاقا

    How many hypocrites feign affinity

    Only to later bare their malice and fake sympathy

  10. والنار نورٌ ملء عينيك ساطعٌ

    لو لم تجد في طبعها الاحراقا

    Fire's light fills your eyes radiantly

    Were it not for its burning nature

  11. ومن الضَّلالةِ أن تُعاشِرَ مَعشراً

    ساقوا الى سُوقِ النِّفاقِ نفاقا

    It is misguidance to keep company

    With those headed to the market of hypocrisy

  12. تَسعَى ولو اعطيتَ سَعيَكَ حقَّهُ

    لبلَغتَ ما أمَّلتَهُ استحقاقا

    You strive, though if given its due

    You'd attain what you aspire to rightfully

  13. فمؤيَّدُ السلطان زُر ودع الورى

    وعمانَ يَمِّم واهجُرِ الآفاقا

    So abandon the land, bid the world farewell

    Head for Oman, shun all horizons

  14. فيه يروقك وجهُ جاهِك منظراً

    وبها تطيبُ لك الحياةُ مَذاقا

    There your status facade will please you

    And life's taste will sweeten

  15. عاود بلادك واقصد الملك الذي

    يكسو دُجى آمالك الاشراقا

    Return to your homeland and seek the king

    Who cloaks the darkness of your hopes in sunshine

  16. مَلِكٌ اذا لسعَتك يوماً نكبةٌ

    صادفتَ من إنعامِه دِرياقا

    A king, if one day misfortune stings you

    You'll find in his munificence a coat of mail

  17. يستعذبُ الاطلاق حتى انَّه

    ليرى غذاءَ سماحِهِ الاطلاقا

    He savors openness to the extent that he

    Sees the nourishment of his generosity in openness

  18. لو سرتَ فُزتَ من اليسار بطائلٍ

    تسرو به عن قومك الاملاقا

    If you set forth, you'd obtain through good fortune

    What your tribe has long aspired to

  19. هذا وقلتُ لعاذلٍ لك عندما

    تهبُ الهباتِ فتكثر الانفاقا

    When gifts pour down, I said to a critic of you

    "My friend! Do not blame generosity on the generous man"

  20. يا مَن يلوم على السَّماح رفيقه

    رفقا فلم أَرَ كالغنى إرفاقا

    If he sees you obedient, whether near or far

    Bearing the immense or heavy load

  21. فلئن رآك اطوعَ خادمٍ

    إن حَلَّ راق وإن ترحَّلَ شاقا

    He serves with his tongue in peacetime, and with his sword in chaos

    Undaunted by whatever he faces

  22. لو حُمِّلَ الأمرَ الجسيمَ وفَا بهِ

    أو حُمِّلَ العبءَ الثقيلَ أطاقا

    So I knew that if I followed her advice

    I would not settle the conflict, or achieve accord

  23. في السِّلم يخدم باللسان وفي الوغى

    بالسيف ليس بهائبٍ ما لاقى

    Before leaving, I found my own limbs

    Exhausting my will to journey by night

  24. فعلمتُ انّي إن اخذتُ برأيها

    لم أعدُ في ترك الخلاف وفاقا

    Yearning for the rising of that moon

    Who is never clothed in the garb of perfection

  25. ووجدتُ من قبل الرَّحيل جوارحي

    يُرهِقنَ عزمي في السُّرى ارهاقا

    The interests of the land are in a pen of his

    That undertakes futures and provisions

  26. حُبّاً لطلعة ذلك القمر الذي

    لا يكتسي غبَّ التماممُحاقا

    Awake he attends to acts of grace as if

    He found sleep an experience to be tasted

  27. ومصالح الاقليم في قلمٍ لهُ

    يتكفَّلُ الآجال والارزاقا

    He converses with scholars until he

    Dislikes turning away during study

  28. يقظان يرعى المكرماتِ كأنَّه

    وجد الرقادَ أمَرَّ شيءٍ ذاقا

    You'd think beneath the night his luminous brow

    A dawn spreading light into the darkness

  29. ويُطالع العلياءَ حتى أنَّه

    عند الرَويَّة يكرهُ الاطراقا

    He almost transcends the limits of sublimity

    To the point of rising with the stars racing high

  30. وتخالُ تحت الليل ضوءَ جبينهِ

    صُبحاً يَمُدُّ على الظلام رواقا

    His swords on an ominous day

    Give the enemy a cup of hot blood to drink

  31. ويكاد من فرط التناهي في العُلى

    يَرقَى مع الهِمَمش التي تتراقى

    Their nature lacks gentleness

    But their tents are made of fine fabric

  32. وسيوفُهن في كُلِّ يوم كريهةٍ

    تَسقى العدى كاسَ الحمام دهاقا

    If people could, the day he marched forth

    They would pave the ground his noble steeds trod

  33. ما في خلائقها هنالك رقَّةٌ

    لكن مضاربها خُلِقنَ رقاقا

    I have vowed if I see, once he has stirred

    My steed to gallop towards him, I shall

  34. ولو استطاع الناسُ يومَ ركوبهِ

    فرشوا لِوَاط جيادِه الاحداقا

    Marry my soul to the daughter of joy

    Divorce the daughter of worries

  35. ولقد نذرت لئن رأيت وقد حدا

    بركائبي حادٍ اليه فَساقا

    Forgive the past sins of fate

    And accept its excuse, however narrow

  36. لا زوِّجَن بنت السرور بخاطري

    ولاعطيَن بنت الهموم طلاقا

    Never again endure the anguish

    Of their betrayal turning spring water bitter

  37. ولا غِفرَن للدهر سالف ذنبهِ

    ولا وسِعَن من عُذره ما ضاقا

    As if God had taken a covenant from them

    To violate the covenant

  38. ولا منحَن ما عشتُ هجري غُصَّةً

    جعلوا بغَدرهم الزلال زُعاقا

    No sooner does a wicked plot brush me

    Than I see its ignorant architect perish

  39. وكأنّما أخَذَ الإِلهُ عليهم

    ميثاقَه أن ينقضُوا الميثاقا

    O King! Your resolve

    Has left the roaring deserters voiceless

  40. ما أن دَهاني قَطُّ مكرٌ سَيّىءٌ

    إِلاّ رأيتُ باهِله قد حاقا

    You've adorned your nature with chastity—so excellent!

    One who adorns himself with chastity adorns his morals

  41. يا أيُّها الملك الذي عزماتُه

    تركَت زئير الخالعين نُهاقا

    You've made your pardon the jewel of your might

    Which is in the habit of striking necks

  42. طَرَّزتَ خُلقك بالعفاف وحبَّذا

    من بالعفاف يُطرِّزُ الاخلاقا

    No rebel has heard your name

    Without waking from his stupor in shock

  43. وجعلتَ عفوكَ حَليَ سطوتك التي

    من دأبها أن تضربَ الاعناقا

    You are still peerless in your time, like your father

    Foremost in reaching the heights, outpacing

  44. فلذاك لم يسمع بذكرك خالعٌ

    إِلاّ صحا من ذكره فأفاقا

  45. لا زلتَ مثل أبيك أوحد دهرِهِ

    سبقاً الى أمد العُلى سَبّاقا
