يا رعاه اللَه من واد وسيم

رق فيه الماء واعتل النسيم

O shepherds of Allah from a beautiful valley

Where water flows gently and the breeze blows

تعرف النضرة فيه والنعيم

عيشنا فيه رخي اللبب

You know the prosperity and comfort in it

We lived in it with contentment of mind

غفلت عنه عيون النوب

حيثما يممت روض وغدير

The eyes of Nubians were oblivious to it

Wherever you turn is a meadow and a pond

وفراش متقن الوشي وثير

وإلى جانبه ظبي غرير

And a well-arranged bed with plenty of pillows

And nearby a shy gazelle

كملت فيه دواعي الطرب

يؤخذ اللهو به عن كثب

It fulfills all aspects of enjoyment

Taken earnestly and closely

ونديم شب في حجر الدلال

لو عصرت الظرف من عطفيه سال

And a youthful companion in the lap of luxury

If you squeeze gentleness from his arms it flows

قمر ينظر من عيني غزال

وإذا ساجلته بالأدب

A moon that looks from the eyes of a gazelle

And if you converse with him politely

يملاء الدلو لعقد الكرب

قم بنا ننشق أرواح السحر

He fills up the bucket to untie difficulties

Take us so we can wander in the spirits of dawn

قبل أن تصدا بأنفاس البشر

هذه الورق تغنت في الشجر

Before the human breath blocks its path

These pages have sung in the trees

وتناجت في رؤوس القضب

كل من ضيع ذا الوقت غبي

And conversed at the tips of the reeds

Whoever misses this time is a fool

دأبنا شم ورود وخدود

وعناق من غصون وقدود

Our habit is smelling roses and cheeks

And hugging branches and tree stumps

والهوى لف خصور بزنود

لذة ما شانها من أشب

And love has tied waistcoats with belts

A pleasure that has no equal

خلصت من موبقات الريب

نفخ روح الراح في جسم الزجاج

Delivered from the pitfalls of doubt

The spirit of comfort blew into the body of glass

إنما يثمر عن فيض المزاج

أيها الساقي فبادر بالعلاج

It only bears fruit by the abundance of disposition

O cupbearer, be quick to respond

رصع الشمس لنا بالشهب

واسكب الفضة فوق الذهب

Dot the sun for us with falling stars

And pour silver over gold
