My chest tightens, and the world closes in,

When loyalty is betrayed by a friend.

Thirsty, I trusted the water for a cup,

I drank, and within me blazed a fire.

Sadness and people awake besieged me,

How can the eye awaken in death?

Sunset contends with me the darkness of night,

It has a sun, unleashed at dawn.

Angrily I walked as the sidewalk bent toward me,

The pavement of sorrow mounting above the road.

I crossed its murmuring as people surrounded me,

Like the slave's shackle, feared by the weak.

I held my sigh within a blazing chest,

While the voice of my heart within me was free.

Passion dried up and my tears poured down

Like the sea's waves battering a drowning man.

Rolling down the cheek of sorrow fastest,

The bowl of my cheek enticed by carnelian.
