نحن ثرنا فحياة أو ممات

وعقدنا العزم أن تحيا الجزائر

We have resolved, whether in life or death

That we have risen—for life or for death—

To keep Algeria alive

And we have resolved that Algeria shall live,

نحن جند في سبيل الحق ثرنا

We are soldiers for the sake of truth

We are soldiers who have risen for the sake of Justice,

وإلى استقلالنا بالحرب قمنا

لم يكن يصغى لنا لـما نطقنا

And for our independence, we started a war

And we have risen to war for our independence.

They did not listen when we spoke

No one listened to us when we spoke,

فاتخذنا رنة البارود وزنا

وعزفنا نغمة الرشاش لحنا

So we took up the melody of gunfire and bullets as our tune

So we took the thunder of gunpowder as our rhythm,

And played the rhythm of machine guns as our song

وعقدنا العزم أن تحيا الجزائر

يا فرنسا قد مضى وقت العتاب

وطويناه كما يطوى الكتاب

فاستعدي وخذي منا الجواب

صرخة الأوطان من ساح الفدا

اسمعوها واستجيبوا للندا

The cry of the nations from the altar of sacrifice

واكتبوها بدماء الشهداء

واقرأوها لبني الجيل غداً

And write it with the blood of martyrs
