أَبْقَى الحوادثُ من خَلي

لِكَ مثلَ جَنْدَلَةِ المَراجِمْ

The vicissitudes of fate are lasting

Like the firmness of a sturdy tent pole

صُلْباً إذا خَارَ الرّجا

لُ أَبَلّ مُمْتَنِعَ الشّكائِمْ

Steadfast when men's hopes diminish

I am resolute, impervious to complaints

قد رَامَني الأعداءُ قَبْ

لكَ فامتنعتُ عَنِ المظالمْ

Though enemies have assailed me

I have refrained from wronging others
