She wept when she saw the ruins of Hind changed
Her neighbors at Hind lived there, so she wept for them
So whoever did not weep for Hind was saddened
The house reminded me of times gone by
If a house has no curtains or
A hardworking mother to adorn its walls
May Hind’s neighbors not know her to be stingy
As others visit while its owner sits idle
When poverty and wealth were
Adversaries, her wealth never beat her poverty
Whenever she did good, she wouldn't say
"I did this" nor would one hear her sigh
She saw her many neighbors as few
And called her little much
She saw disobeying a husband wrong
And if she were disobeyed it was but a small calamity
If the blamed one in the grave knew tomorrow
Who came to her and who sent her bed
She would go out to welcome her
When mourners cry, her bed sings praises
When hands left her side, she was generous to you
Dispelling her sadness for you with her light
Whenever a visitor came to her grave she would grow
Pasture on his back, lighting up her burrows
And when death came to her, they counted her virtues
Traits she didn't boast of
Whenever she entered a house, nothing
Would serve the homespeople but her mat
If morals were robes, Hind’s would be
Nothing but silk
She passed from a family as though
Bereft of patient kinsmen’s wealth
Hind’s neighbors found no substitute neighbor
Nor did her little mother become self-sufficient
The young girl hurried to God while
Hind’s glory peaked
If out of sadness Hamidah cries
Or red-breasted women stand keening at her grave
We are stirred to tears, though she was sparing
Of weeping for Hind’s insignificant woes
