أَراني إِذا غالَبتُ بِالصَبرِ حُبَّها

أَبى الصَبرُ ما أَلقى بِسُعدى فَأُغلَبُ

When with patience I overcome love for her

Patience itself refuses what would bring me bliss

وَقَد عَلِمَت عِندَ التَعاتُبِ أَنَّنا

إِذا ظَلَمَتنا أَو ظَلَمنا سَنُعتِبُ

And she knows, when we reproach each other

If we wrong or are wronged, we will make amends

وَإِنّي وَإِن لَم أَجنِ ذَنباً سَأَبتَغي

رِضاها وَأَعفو ذَنبَها حينَ تُذنِبُ

Though I've done no wrong, still I'll try

To please her, pardoning when she does wrong

وَإِنّي إِذا أَذنبتُ فيها يَزيدُني

بِها عَجَباً مَن كانَ فيها يُؤَنِّبُ

And when I've wronged her, it makes me

Marvel more at one who'd chasten me for her
