I loved your eyes, an endless restless sea
My life a sail blown by its waves unquiet
I loved your eyes, clouds in tumultuous flow
A stormy season in its nature fickle
I loved them, dusk softly falling night
Wherein my childhood, dreams and poise abide

I loved your eyes, though bleeding were the waves
I loved them while the rose's blood was spilt
I loved them, and the plains, both hope and dream
Which sometimes slumber till the horizon wakes
Your eyes, a refuge for my scattered dreams
Seeking their shelter from the evening's shade

A garden made of shadows is their claim
Where those who burn in foreign lands retreat
They stir with the unknown and mysteries
As though for the hidden tomorrow launched
What is within your eyes? Longing or pain
Intense? Or is it a call to grace demure?
How much melody in their depths drowns towns
And between their lashes, how the dusk is born!

The dawn has no colour if not lit by them
Their magic filling squares and streets with light
Your eyes proclaim the spring of passion spent
Of talk of love faded, its ardour cooled
