هل أنت لي أم أنني ما عاد لي

حق عليك وقد رحلت بدوني

Are you mine or am I no longer yours

With no right over you as you left me?

يا ظالمي هل في الغرام تراجع

حتى أعود لوحدتي وسكوني?

My oppressor, did love regress in you

Until I return to my solitude and calm?

أنسيت أن هواك دنياي التي

شهدت ضرام مدامعي وشجوني?

Did you forget that your love was my world

That saw the flowing of my tears and laments?

والعشق نار في القلوب ولوعة

بين الضلوع بوقْدها تُصليني

Love is fire in hearts and agony

In ribs, its flames imploring me

في ظلمة الليل البهيم حبيسة

والهجر أودى بي فمن يحييني!?

In the gloom of the beastly night, jailed

As separation has finished me, who will revive me!?

موثوقة بعهودها .. ووعودها

رغم الجراح بقلبها المطعون

Trusting in its covenants.. and promises

Despite the wounds in its stabbed heart

أضغاثُ أحلام تطوف بخاطري

ومخاوفٌ أشباحُها تُضنيني

Delusions roam in my thoughts

And fears whose ghosts exhaust me

هلا سألت الليل عني مرة

ينبيك عن سهدي به وأنيني

If only you had asked the night about me once

It would have woken you up to my moan and lament

يا هاجراً من ليس في يدها سوى

الصبر الجميل وليته يَشفيني

Oh you who deserted with nothing but

Patience and beautiful endurance that may heal me

شتان ما بين الحنان ونشوتي

بخمور حبك والهوى المجنون

Great is the difference between affection and my bliss

With the wine of your love and insane passion

يا خادعاً يسقي الغرام سرابُه

رغم الوفاء لحبك المكنون

Oh deceiver who gives mirages to drink for love

Despite loyalty to your hidden love

خنت الوداد ولم تصن عهد الهوى

والعهد عندي مشرق يهديني

You betrayed affection and did not keep the vow of passion

While to me the vow is a guiding dawn

في نشوةٍ شهِدَ الغرام بأنها

خفقات حبٍّ صادق وأمين

In an intoxication that passion has witnessed as

Throbs of sincere and honest love

أغريْتني بالكأس يوم أتيْتني

فظننت أنك قادم ترويني

You tempted me with the cup when you came to me

So I thought you had arrived to quench my thirst

فالراح قد لعبتْ بنبض حنيني

أو لم يكن شيطانُها يسقيني

But the winds have toyed with the pulse of my longing

Or was it not their devil that was making me drink?

وبلابل تشدو بأنغام المنى

ولكَمْ فرحت بطالعي الميمون

And nightingales singing with melodies of wishes

How happy I was with my auspicious fortune

لكنه قدَري وليس خطيئتي

أُعْطيتُ منه صفقة المغبون

But it is my fate, not my sin

I was given a fool's bargain from it

يا خافقي إن الذي أبقى الأسى

أمسى على طلل يثير جنوني

Oh my fluttering heart, the one who kept the sorrow

Has become ruins that stir up my madness

يأيها الباكي على أطلاله

هات الهوى واشرب معي ترويني

O you who cry over his ruins

Bring the passion and drink with me to quench my thirst

ولربما رقَّتْ لنا أقدارنا

وأتى الحبيب بشوقه يرجوني

And perhaps our fates will be kind to us

And the beloved will come yearning for me

فالحب للأحباب مهما فرّقوا

والحب تاج فوق كل جبين

For love of the loved ones no matter how they separate

And love is a crown above every forehead

والحب أسمى ما نعيش عواطفا

وله يغني الطير فوق غصون

And love is the noblest feeling we live

For it birds sing atop branches

ولسوف يبقى يا حبيبي حبنا

رغم الجفاء ولوعتي وظنوني

And our love will remain my beloved

Despite the estrangement, my pain and doubts

فالحب في قلبي وأنت حبيبه

والعشق روحي والوفاء يقيني

For love is in my heart and you are its beloved

And passion is my soul and loyalty is my certainty
