Old age replaced youth as a guest

Who stayed and did not wish to leave

    When white hair banished blackness

Like dawn ending the night's darkness

Flirtatious eyes have long killed me

With no remorse for their slain

    Each charming beloved's glance

Was like an arrow shot from hiding

They left Orwa and Al-Murqish before

Both were struck and could not endure

    They left Abi Dhu'aib distraught

    And exhausted Kuthayyir and Jameel

And left Ibn Abi Rabiah's rhetoric

Through which he went about enchanted

But I am not of those they killed

For they left my heart confused

If your ancestor was the father

Of all people, women would not bear the stingy
