They saw lightning in the pouring rain, so they were amazed,
The slanderers slept while the sincere stayed awake.
From her pillow I hear a tale,
That her saliva is sweet wine.
In her intoxicating glances, a proof,
Though we never tasted, as the virtuous claimed.
Exalted is God! How my tears flowed
Whenever tents were pitched for my beloved.
My longing is stirred when lightning flashes,
And I am transported when doves coo.
