If you are just, O clan of Marwan, we will come near,

Otherwise, bid us farewell and depart.

For we have, because of you, a refuge and home

With Jesus, in the winds of the open desert.

And on earth, away from the abode of disgrace, there is a course,

And every land where I have camped is my homeland.

So what can al-Hajjaj accomplish with all his effort

When we have gone beyond the trench of Ziyad?

Curse the father of al-Hajjaj and curse his old woman,

    Whose son grazes in pastures.

Were it not for the clan of Marwan, Ibn Yusuf

Would be as he was, a slave from the slaves of Iyad,

At a time when he was a slave admitting disgrace,

Flattering the boys of the villages as he wandered.
