I am ashamed before the horsemen if I am seen

In the land of enemies with trailing robes.

And I am ashamed if when war wears its harness,

I let down my robes from war's stern face.

I am not one to shelter in the fray

Nor one to shun the peace of sinful acts.

Nor one to plan the consequence for what

I hold more pressing than great ventures.

But I am one resolved in purpose, pressing on

Through the recurring tide of incidents.

Few differences of view in war are harmful

When hearts unite before grave perils.
