1. We are mad with longing for them, though they are close beside us—

    what, then, will become of us one day when they journey away?

  2. Then neither forgetful solace nor grief will ever avail me,

    nor will weeping and wailing ever intercede for me.

  3. My day, when I awaken, is early morn and bewilderment;

    my night, when evening falls, is heartache and restless tossing.

  4. My lot from those I love is rejection and separation,

    and among the people of my age are gloaters and reproachers.

  5. It shone with radiance and light, as though it were

    suns revealed in consummate splendor.

  6. Joy be yours, O Imam of the Muslims, in it and in—

    dwelling there, while the enemies are kept far away.

  7. And there, in happiness, are a people who cherish your love—

    from all creation without exception, young and old.

  8. Blessed are you, O House of Ya‘rub, for truly you

    have risen with fortune ascendant among the realms.

  9. May you never cease to dwell in grace and honor,

    throughout all time, in the loftiest, glory-crowned station.

  10. Long live, O gallant one—Sultan Sayf ibn Malik—

    scion of Zahran, the majestic, glory-robed king.

  11. May He make you king, O noble-rooted one, amid everlasting bliss,

    and a life of ease, adorned with felicitations.

  12. In the year one thousand, with eight completing its sum,

    and likewise a hundred, by every hopeful soul’s reckoning.
