عسى اللهُ بعدَ البين يجمعُ بيننا

وترجعُ أيامٌ بذاك كرامُ

May God, after this separation, reunite us again

And days of dignity return once more

وأيامُ دهرٍ كان للشملِ جامعاً

ليقضي لنا بعد الفراقِ ذِمامُ

And days of time that gathered families

To fulfill for us after this parting, hopes

وعلَّ الليالي المقبلاتِ تردُّ مَا

مضَى من ليالٍ حَدُّهن كَهَامُ

And may the coming nights restore

What has passed of nights, limited as they were

كذَا عادةُ الدنيا اجتماعٌ وفرقةٌ

وحُزْنٌ ونقصٌ تارةً وتمامُ

Such is the way of life, union and separation

And sorrow and loss at times, and at times completeness

وقالوا بأسبابِ العزاء تمسّكوا

فكيفً وأسبابُ العزاءِ زمامُ

And they said, hold fast to the causes of consolation

But how, when the causes of consolation rein no more

فنضحَى بلا صبرٍ جميلٍ كآبةً

عليك ونمسى والدموعُ سِجَامُ

So we are distressed without graceful patience

Missing you, as tears flow unrestrained

وما ذَا على من لا يرى والداً بأن

يظل كئيباً أو عليهِ ملامُ

And why should one who sees no parents

Stay morose or blamed for it

وماذا علينَا إن قتلنا نفوسنَا

إذا عزَّ من نهوى وعزَّ مَرَامُ

And what is upon us, if we kill ourselves

If the one we love is honored, and hopes dashed
