وكم من فتى يسعى ويحرم دائبا

وآخر يؤتى رزقه وهو عاجز

How many a youth strives tirelessly, only to be denied,

while another’s provision comes to him though he is helpless.

وربتما نال الكرامة ألكنٌ

وأُخِّرَ عن نيل المطالب راجز

And often a tongue-tied man attains honor,

while a poet of rajaz is held back from attaining his aims.
