ثلاثٌ هلاك المرءِ فيهما فخلِّها

وعاصِ الهوى يا أيُّهذا المرابِثُ

Three things destroy a man: uncontrolled rage,

hastiness, and immorality. Beware of them, my friend.

هي الغضبُ المذمومُ والعجلة التي

تذمُّ مع الأخيارِ والفحشُ ثالثُ

Three things make a man righteous:

fulfilling one's duties, speaking the truth, and pure intentions.

ثلاثٌ بهنّ المرء يصلحُ دينَه

ويحمدُ بالخيراتِ عند البريةِ

Three things ruin one's health and heart:

overindulging in sinful desires, gluttony,

خلاصُ الفَتى من كل حقٍّ لربِّه

وصدقٌ يواخيه وإخلاصُ نيَّةِ

and oversleeping in the mornings.

ثلاثٌ سقامُ الجسمِ والقلبِ عندها

وصاحبها في الشرِّ طولَ حياتِه

فكثرةُ وطْءِ للغواني وتخمة

وكثرةُ نومِ المرءِ في غُدواتِه
