عجلةُ الإنسان لومٌ
عند أصحابَ المزيَّهْ
Blaming man's hastiness
Is customary for the genteel
ذمَّها كلُّ البرايا
في دواوين القَضيّهْ
All decent folk have condemned it
In the chronicles of justice
عجلةُ الإنسان خيرٌ
من توانِ في العطيَّه
Man's hastiness is good
Better than delay in giving
وكذا الإمْهَالُ شينٌ
عند أصحابِ السَّجيَّه
Likewise, procrastination is ugly
To people of dignity
ليسَ في العجلةِ خيرٌ
يرتجى عند البريَّه
There is no good in hastiness
To be expected from the righteous
إنما الحاذقُ لا يعجلُ
في أمر الرَّعيِّهْ
Rather, the prudent do not hasten
In matters of the flock
إنما الإمْهال زينٌ
في العقولِ الألْمَعِيَّهْ
Procrastination is an ornament
To the brilliant minds
وكذا العجلةُ عيبٌ
في سَجيَّات البريَّهْ
While hastiness is a flaw
In the nature of the righteous
إنما الإفراطُ في العجلة
إلاّ في العطيَّه
Excessive hastiness is only good
In giving and charity
والونَى خيرٌ لأصحابِ
القضايَا في القضيه
While deliberation is better for those
Presiding over court cases
ليس في الإمهالِ خيرٌ
في سجياتِ البريَّه
There is no good in procrastination
In the nature of the decent
إنما الخير تراهُ
عند تعجيلِ القضيَّه
Rather, good is found
In expediting justice
ليس في العجلةِ خيرٌ
لأولى النفسِ الأبيَّه
There is no good in hastiness
For those with noble souls
إنما الإفراطُ فيهَا
وهي أسبابُ المَنِيَّه
Excess in it
Causes ruin and loss
إنما العجلةُ في بعضِ
الفضيّاتِ رَضِيَّه
Hastiness is acceptable in some
Virtuous matters
وأرَى الإمْهَالَ فيها
من رَدَاءَاتِ السَّجيَّه
While I see procrastination in them
As a vice of dignity
إنما خيرُ السجيّه
عجلةٌ عند العَطيَّه
The best dignity
Is hastiness in giving
كلُّ مَنْ يبغى سِواهَا
ناقصٌ عند البريَّهْ
Whoever seeks otherwise
Is lacking, by the righteous
يمدحُ العجلةَ يا ذَا
وهي أسبابُ المَنيِّه
You praise hastiness, my friend
Yet it causes loss
فامدحْ الإمهالَ مدحاً
فهو من خيرِ السجيَّهْ
So praise deliberation highly
For it is the best dignity
لا تعبْ تعجيلَ قومٍ
عند أصحابِ المزيَّه
Do not weary yourself praising
The hastiness of some people
لاَ ولاَ الإمهال لومٌ
في سجيّاتِ البَريَّه
No, and do not blame
Procrastination of the decent
فضعِ العجلةَ في مَوْ
ضِعها في الجليَّه
Use hastiness appropriately
Clearly and openly
وضعِ الإمهالَ في مَو
ضِعه يا ذَا المزيَّه
And use procrastination appropriately
O you of dignity
