وإن شئتَ استباحةَ كلِّ أمرٍ

فكن في الناس ضرّارّا نَقُوعَا

If you wish to make all matters permissible

Then be harsh and stern among the people

ولا تسمعْ لهم قيلاً وقالاً

ولا تَكُ فيهمُ رجلاً جَزوعَا

Do not listen to their gossip and talk

And do not be among them a weak man

فإن عدلَ الرئيس فكلُّ شىءٍ

به عدلٌ وما شئٌ مضيعا

For if the leader is just, then all things

Are just through him, nothing goes amiss

وكنْ في الأمر ذَا فَهمِ وحِلم

ولا تظهر لشانيك الخضُوعا

Be wise and patient in command

Do not show your enemies submission

ولا تقدمْ على الشياء حتى

تفكر في مخارجها جميعَا

Do not undertake matters until

You have thought through their outcomes in full

وفكرْ في مداخلها لئلا

ترى أعقابها خَطْبا فَظيعَا

And ponder their beginnings, lest

You see their ends become dire tribulations

ولا تغضبْ إذا خوشنْتَ يوماً

ولا تكُ في أوامرهم هَلُوعَا

Do not be angry if you are thwarted one day

And do not be among them downcast

وخفْ قولَ الجماعة أن يقولوا

مقدمنا من الأهوال ريِعَا

Heed the words of the group, lest they say

Our leader is frightened of horrors

وكنْ في الحلم رضوَى لا تبالى

وكُنْ للثقل محتملا ضَليعَا

Be content in patience, do not care

And bear burdens staunch and long

أطاعُوا من أطاعَ الله حقا

إمامهم الفتى السامى المطيعَا

They obeyed the one who truly obeyed God

Their leader, the noble, obedient youth
