1. مَنْ لصبٍّ دموعُه ليس تَرْفَاً

    هَمَلاناً إنْ شَام بالشام بَرْقَا

    He whose tears over his beloved are not extravagance

    If he overlooks us while in Damascus, it’s just a flash of lightning

  2. وَكَئيبٍ إِذا تذكر أحبَا

    باً بصنعاءَ حَن وحبذاً وشَوْقَا

    And the gloomy one whenever he remembers his loved ones

    Is enamored with Sanaa, longing, and passion

  3. وإذا لاحَ نحو يبَرِينَ بَرْقٌ

    هامَ شَوْقاً وهَام حبّاً وعِشقاً

    And when lightning flashes towards Yibreen

    He yearns, loves, and burns with passion

  4. جيرة قد شقيتْ لولا هواهم

    بهواهم ما كنتُ في الحبّ أشْقى

    My neighbor who suffered because of their love

    Without their love I wouldn't have suffered from love

  5. مَنْ بُلِى بالغرامِ والوجدِ يوماً

    وجَفْتهُ أحبابهُ فهْوَ أشْقَى

    Whoever once felt the agony and torment of love

    And his loved ones abandoned him, he surely suffers more

  6. وإذا بدلوه بالبُعْد قُرْباً

    بعد ما شَفَّهُ الضّنَى ليس يَشْقَى

    And if after being so close they replace it with distance

    After missing them, he won’t suffer anymore

  7. ورُبُوعٍ سَفْيتُها بدموع

    وأكفانٍ ما كنّ بالدمع تُسْقَى

    I spent nights shedding tears

    And shrouds that tears didn't soak

  8. فارحمُوا المبتَلى بكمُ فهو يهوا

    كُم ورقُّوا لمن لكم صار رِقّاً

    So have mercy on the one afflicted by love for you, for he adores

    You, and be kind to the one who because of you became an invalid

  9. وافقُوا بالصبِّ المتيم فالر

    فقُ لمن آلف الكآبةَ أَبقَى

    Empathize with the lover's vigil, for vig-

    ilance remains for those accustomed to gloom

  10. لا تُطِيلوا النَّوى فإنيَ مِن بَعْ

    د نَوَاكُمْ وهَجْرِكمْ لستُ أَبقَى

    Don't prolong the separation, for after

    Your companionship and your estrangement, I won't remain

  11. وارفُضُوا البَيْن والبعَادً فإني

    لستُ أقوى نعُرْوَةُ الحبِّ وُثقَى

    Refuse the estrangement and distance, for I

    Can’t endure the firm bond of love being severed

  12. أَنَا أَرْضَى إن كان يُرْضيكُمُ

    قتلَى وما قد لقيت منكم وألقىَ

    I’d be content if it pleases you

    That I was killed and whatever I experienced because of you

  13. قد كفَاني ما بِي هوىً لا تزيدو

    ني جَفاءً فإنني صِرْتُ مُلْقَى

    The love I have for you is enough, don't increase

    My misery, for I have become completely rejected

  14. أَنَا نشوانُ مِن رحيقِ هوَاكُم

    طولَ دَهْرى لا زلتُ أَسْقِى وأُسْقَى

    I delight from the wine of your love

    I have long quenched my thirst and been quenched

  15. كلما قُلت قد هبطتُ من الشدةٍ

    في حبِّكم بَدَا لِيَ مَرْقَى

    Whenever I say I have fallen from the agony of love for you

    Your friendship shows me the way out

  16. كلما قُلت قد صَحَوْتُ من الحبِّ

    سَقَاني نَوَاكُمْ كأسَ فُرْقَى

    Whenever I say I have woken from love

    Your companionship gives me a cup of clarity

  17. ومديحي لك ابنَ سلطان سيفٍ

    قد سارَ غَرْباً وشَرْقَا

    And my praise for you, son of the sultan Sayf

    Has traveled east and west

  18. هوَ رَبُّ الندَى أبو العرب السا

    مى عَلا الخلْقِ في البرية خُلْقَا

    He is the lord of dew, the most generous of Arabs

    He surpassed people in character and manners

  19. فاقَ أهلَ الزمان أصلا ومجداً

    مثل ما فاقهم طِباعاً وخُلقا

    He excelled people of the time in origin and glory

    Just as he surpassed them in character and manners

  20. وهو أنْدَاهم يداً في العطايا

    وهو أزْكاهم فُروعاً وعَرْقَا

    He is the most generous, his hand outpours bounty

    And he is the most refined, his branches and roots are immaculate

  21. سبَق السابقين مجداً وجوداً

    وعطاءً في حليةِ الملكِ سَبْقَا

    He preceded the frontrunners in glory and generosity

    And in giving from the adornments of the king, he took the lead

  22. فارْق يا ابنَ الكرامِ درَج العليا

    ء لا زلتَ للمكارِمِ تَرْقَى

    Rise, O son of the most noble

    You still ascend the highest rank

  23. لا تُبالِ فالأمرُ والنهىُ والدْ

    دُنيا لكم فامحق المخالِفَ مَحْقَا

    Don’t care, for the command, prohibition, and religion are for you

    So obliterate the adversaries entirely

  24. واترك الضِّدَّ لا يقرُّ ولا يسط

    يع صرفاً ولا خلافاً ونطقاً

    And leave the opponent, he won’t approve or obey

    Or change course or speak against

  25. وارمِ من عادَانا وخالفنا في

    أمرِنا بالقِلَى ومن مَال شَقّا

    And pelt those who opposed and differed from us

    In our command with arrows, and whoever deviated, cleave in two

  26. واسخُ وارجو الإله واصدعْ وسامحْ

    واسمُ واسترْ وزرْ وعشْ واحمِ وابْقَى

    Give advice and hope for God and speak out and forgive

    And fast and conceal and visit and protect and endure

  27. واسلُ واسترْ واستفدْ وترمَّق

    واهدِ وارحمْ وجدْ وزدْ واعزُ وارقَا

    Give advice and conceal and seek benefit and patched garments

    Guide and have mercy and struggle and increase and honor and be tender

  28. واعفُ واصفحْ وقلْ وسُدْ وتجاوز

    وابنِ لي مُرْتَقَى المعالي لأَرْقَى

    Pardon and forgive and speak and block and overlook

    And build for me the towering heights of glory that I may ascend

  29. أنا أصبحتُ في ذَرَاك زمَدْحِي

    ومعاليك أطولُ الناس عُنْقَا

    I have spent my life praising you

    And your sublime traits make me the tallest of people

  30. زانَ شِعرى بِكُم وتاهَ على الشع

    ار طُرٍّا لأنه صارَ صِدْقَا

    My poetry was adorned by you and wandered

    The meadows of poetry aimlessly because it became sincere

  31. كلُّ مدحٍ في غيركم هذيانٌ

    والهذاءُ الرَّدِىُّ يورِثُ حُمْقَا

    Any praise of others is nonsense

    And nonsense leads to pitiful ignorance

  32. كان مدح الأئمةِ العدلِ دينا

    وامتداح الضلال ظلماً وفسقَا

    Praising the just imams was an obligation

    While praising misguidance was injustice and sin

  33. يا سليلَ الإمام سلطانَ سيف

    أنت أهدَى الورَى وأزكَى وأَتقَى

    O descendant of the Imam Sultan Sayf

    You are the most rightly guided of all people and the most refined and devout

  34. يا فتَى الأكرمينَ حَمْداً وشكراً

    هذه سلم العُلَى فَتْرَقى

    O young man of the most generous, praise and thanks

    This is the ladder to ascend

  35. وتوقى الأعداءَ جهدَك واحلمْ

    فأخُو الحِلم دَهرَه بَتَوَقّي

    And avoid your enemies’ plots, and forbear

    Patience is its brother, and its age endures with care

  36. أعيالٌ لكَ الأنامُ فأنَّى

    خِلْتهم في بحار جُودِكَ غَرْقَى

    People depend on you, so how can

    You leave them to drown in your generosity’s oceans

  37. ومُلوك الدنيا لديكَ عبيدٌ

    وموال لا يستطيعونَ عِتُقَا

    The kings of the world are your slaves

    And followers unable to free themselves

  38. هاكَ مدحاً كأنه الدرّ والمر

    جان والزِّبرقانُ بل هو أَبْقَى

    Nay, it is more lasting

    With eloquence beyond any flaw it encounters

  39. بقوافٍ لا عيبَ تلقاهُ إلا

    أنها ترشقُ المُعادِين رَشْقَا

    Except that it pierces enemies like an arrow

    With it faces whiten and darken

  40. فبِها تبيضُّ الوجوهُ وتسو

    دٌّ وجوهُ الأعداء غَيْظاً وتَشْقَى

    And enemies’ faces blacken with rage and misery

    It surpassed any meaning, softness, and expression

  41. فاقَ معنىً ورقةً وعبارا

    تٍ وطالَ القريضُ نظمَا فَدَقَّا

    And the stringing grew long, intricately crafted
