1. ما زلتُ في لهوٍ وفي طربٍ وفي

    عيشٍ رغيدٍ مَعْ سرورِ كاملِ

    I am still in play and joy and

    In a pleasant life with perfect bliss

  2. حتى إذا لاحَ المشيبُ بلّمتي

    قطعتْ حبالَ مودتي ووسائلِي

    Until the gray hair appeared on my temples

    It cut the ropes of my affection and means

  3. يا هذه إن تُنْصفي أو تَعْدِلي

    عن زورةِ المضنَى فلستُ بعادِلِ

    O you, if you judge fairly or act justly

    From the injustice of affliction, I am not a judge

  4. إن تنكرِي شيبي فمنكِ حلولُه

    أو تُنكرِي جسمي فهجرُك قاتلِي

    If you deny my gray hair, it is from you that came

    Or if you deny my body, then your abandonment killed me

  5. أعرضتِ حينَ بدَا بياضُ مفارقي

    عَنْ مذهبي وأطعتِ قولَ العاذِلِ

    You turned away when the whiteness of separation appeared

    From my path and obeyed the word of the blamer

  6. أنسيتِ عهداً قد مضى زَمنَ الصبي

    قضَّيتُه وعصيتُ فيكِ عواذلِي

    You forgot a covenant that passed the time of youth

    I fulfilled it and disobeyed those who reproached me about you

  7. إن تعذرِي فالعذرُ منك سجيةٌ

    ووِدادك النامِي كظلٍّ زائلِ

    If you find excuses, the excuse is your disposition

    And your dormant love is like a fleeting shade

  8. قالتْ وما قرعَ العتابُ حصانها

    هيهاتَ لا يرجُو وصالَ مواصلِ

    She said, and the reproach did not stir her steed

    Alas, one who hopes for union does not wish for parting

  9. صدَّتْ ولى دمعٌ يسيل كأنما

    أعداهُ فيضُ ندى الإمام العادلِ

    She turned away, and a teardrop flowed as if

    The flood of the tears of the just Imam prepared it

  10. أهلُ الممالكِ والفضائلِ والعلا

    ذى الفضل سلطان بن سيف الفاضلِ

    The people of kingdoms, merits, and knowledge

    Possessor of merit, Sultan bin Saif Al-Fazil

  11. نسلُ الكرامِ الطيبين أولِى الندى

    والجودِ أهل مسائلِ وَوَسائِل

    The progeny of the good noble ones, the foremost in bounty

    And generosity, the people of questions and means

  12. فضلوا الورَى بمراتبٍ ومناصبٍ

    وطبائع محمودة وشمائلِ

    They excelled people with ranks and positions

    And praised natures, traits

  13. وخلائق غرٍّ حسانٍ وُضَّحٍ

    ومواهبِ منشورةِ وفواضلِ

    And refined, beautiful, radiant morals

    And published talents and merits

  14. لك يا ابن سيف سطوة لو صادمتْ

    جبلا لأصبح كالكثيبِ السائلِ

    For you, O son of Saif, is might that if it opposed

    A mountain, it would become like melting sand

  15. وضياء وجهٍ مشرق ذى رَوْنَق

    يُزْرِى على القمر المنيرِ الكاملِ

    And the brilliance of a shining face of splendor

    That eclipses the full radiant moon

  16. يا سائلي عَن جوده وسخائِه

    فندَاهُ يقصر عنه وصفُ القائِل

    O you who ask about his generosity and munificence

    Its expanse falls short of description by the speaker

  17. إن قلتُ كالغيثِ الملِثِّ بَخَسْتُه

    أو قلت كالبحر المحيط الشاملِ

    If I say like heavy pouring rain, I belittle him

    Or say like the vast encompassing sea

  18. وبخسته إن قلتُ في الهيجاءِ والب

    أساءِ كالليثِ الهزبرِ الباسلِ

    And if I say in courage and righteousness

    Like the mighty lion with might

  19. هو أولٌ هو آخرٌ في جودِه

    لا تحكه بأواخِر وأوائِل

    He is the first, he is the last in his generosity

    Do not limit him to past and future

  20. وضياءُ عدلِك ما لَه من جاحدٍ

    كخضمِّ جُودِك مَا له من سَاحلِ

    The light of your justice has no denier

    Like the width of your munificence has no shore

  21. أمَّلْتُ فيكَ بأن تسد خَصاصتي

    ولديك ليس يخيبُ سَعْىُ الآملِ

    I hoped in you to meet my needs

    And with you no seeker's effort fails

  22. وعملت فيك معانياً منظومةً

    ولديكَ ليس يضيعُ أجرُ العاملِ

    And composed verses with meanings about you

    And with you no worker's wage is lost

  23. من معشرٍ لا شىء أقبحَ عندهم

    من قطع ذِى القُربى وردّ السائِل

    Of a people nothing uglier to them

    Than cutting off kin and refusing a seeker

  24. طلعتْ شموسُ الحق من أرجائكم

    وبِعْدَلِكم أفلَتْ نجومُ الباطلِ

    The suns of truth rose up from your horizons

    And by your justice the stars of falsehood vanished

  25. كلٌّ أقَرَّ بعدْلِكم ونوالِكم

    من ذا الورى من عالمٍ أو جاهلِ

    All were brought near by your justice and bestowal

    Who in existence, scholar or ignorant, does not praise you

  26. فلأشكرنَّ جَدَا يديك لأنه

    يأتي إلىّ بسرعةٍ في العاجِلِ

    So let me abundantly thank your bountiful hands

    For it comes quickly to help me in urgency

  27. وليهْن عيدُ الفطر إنك عيدُه

    وليهن عيدٌ غيرُه من قابِل

    And may the feast of breaking fast be delightful, for you are its feast

    And may every other feast be delightful after it

  28. واخلد وعش واسلم ودم وما غردتْ

    وُرْق الحمائم فوقَ غُصن مائِل

    Relax, feast, greet peace, blood, and what the doves cooed

    Above the leaning branch

  29. أو حَن مشتاقٌ إلى أوطانِه

    أو لاحَ برْق في غمامٍ هاطلِ

    Or a longing lover for his homelands

    Or lightning flashed in pouring clouds
