إني لأعجبُ من أناس زماننا

في حقٍّ مرضى صحبهم لم ينصفُوا

I'm amazed at people of our time

They were unfair to their sick companions

قصدُ الخلائق في العبادةِ إنهم

إن لم يَعُودُوا في الثلاث توقفُوا

People aim for worship, if they don't

Visit the sick for three days, they stop

وأنا أقولُ ولو إلى سنةٍ فلا

يجفى الممرّض بل يعادُ فيألفُ

I say, even if it's a year, don't

Neglect the sick, go back to befriend

وإذا امرؤ في الناس طال به الأذى

قطعوا زيارتَه له وتخلَّقُوا

If someone's long bothered by harm

They stop visiting, pretending to be shy

إن كنتَ ذا عقلٍ وحلمٍ فاتَّبعْ

ما قلتُ من حقٍّ ودعْ ما صنَّفُوا

If you're wise and patient, then follow

What I say is right, ignore their myths

ودع الحياءَ وراء ظهرك واستقمْ

بعيادةِ المرضى فأنتَ المنصفُ

Leave shyness behind, do your best

To visit the sick, for you're most fair

وإذا مرضتَ فلمْ يعُدْك فتىً فلا

تعتب عليه وكن كأنّك أغْلَفُ

If you're sick and no youth visits you

Don't blame them, act as if you don't care

وإذا رَمَته يدُ الحوادث بالأسَى

عُدْ مُسْرِعاً لا يعتريك تكلفُ

And if calamities hurt him with sorrow

Visit quickly, no hesitation there
