1. مَن كان عند الله غالبْ

    لا شكَّ بالخيرات آيبْ

    Whoever is victorious with God

    Will surely attain blessings unending,

  2. ومَن اتَّقاه فاز فَوْ

    زاً لا يخافُ من العواقبْ

    And whoever fears Him succeeds -

    A success with no fear of consequences.

  3. مَن لا يفكَّرُ في العواقبْ

    دهراً يعيشُ بغير صاحبْ

    Whoever does not think of consequences

    Will live long devoid of companions.

  4. وقلاهُ كل مُساعدٍ

    وجفاه أولادُ الأقاربْ

    Relatives and kin ignore him,

    As do even his closest companions.

  5. وأهانَهُ كل الأنا

    مِ من الأباعِدِ والأقاربْ

    All people despise him -

    Both distant and close relations.

  6. فتراه كالغَرَضِ الذي

    يرمونه من كل جانبْ

    You see him like a target

    Attacked from every direction,

  7. عما قليلٍ سوفَ ينشُبُ

    في براثنها المخالبْ

    Soon to be ripped apart

    By the claws of calamity.

  8. لا يستطيعُ لدفعِ ما

    هو فيه من دفعِ المصايبْ

    Unable to defend himself

    From the blows of misfortune.

  9. لا عَمَّ ينفُعه ولا

    خالٌ ولا خِلٌّ مُصاحبْ

    No relative can help him,

    Nor intimate friend stand by.

  10. أُوصيكَ لا تصحبْ فتىً

    ينحو إلى طلب المثالبْ

    I advise you, do not befriend

    One who seeks only self-gain.

  11. واختر لنفسك صاحباً

    حُرّاً كريماً ذا مراتبْ

    Rather, choose a noble friend

    Of rank, generous and wise,

  12. فطناً لبيباً صادِقاً

    نَدْباً حليماً ذا تجاربْ

    Keen, insightful, truthful,

    Of good lineage, patient and tried.

  13. أنت المعظَّمُ لم تزلْ

    تسمو به فرق الثواقبْ

    You are exalted, towering high

    Above the stars in ascendance.

  14. لا يستبدُّ برأْيه

    أبداً يُشَاوِرُ في النوائبْ

    Never stubborn in his views,

    Consulting others in hardship.

  15. فمن استبدَّ برأْيه

    لا زالَ يأتي بالعجائبْ

    Whoever is stubborn in opinion

    Will persist in acts unwise.

  16. لا شكَّ ذلك أحمقٌ

    فالبُعدُ منه عليك واجبْ

    No doubt such a fool should be shunned -

    Avoid him, this is only wise.

  17. فالحُمق داءٌ لا دواءَ

    له فأَهْمِلْهُ وجانبْ

    Folly is a disease with no cure,

    So ignore him and turn away.

  18. كالبالِ إن رَقَّعْتَهُ

    من جانبٍ ينحلُّ جانبْ

    If you mend a part, another will tear -

    Why tire yourself in this way?

  19. أتعبتَ نفسك إن تصا

    حب صاحباً أعمى المذاهبْ

    You'll struggle if you befriend

    One blind to the proper path.

  20. لا زالَ يلقى نفسه

    بين المتالف والمعاطبْ

    Throwing himself amidst

    Those who love and those who wrath.

  21. يُسْدِى ويُلْحِمُ ساكناً

    طرق المخاوف والمتاعِبْ

    Pacifying and uniting

    Ways of fear and adversity.

  22. بل كلما نَهْنَهْتَهُ

    عن حالةٍ أبدى غرائبْ

    The more you dissuade him

    The more strange his actions be.

  23. يُمسى ويُصبح في المضي

    قِ ودمعُه في الخَدِّ ساكبْ

    Morn and eve he is downcast,

    With tears flowing down his cheek.

  24. لا يَرْعَوِى عن جهله

    ويقول ما قد خَطَّ صائبْ

    Never learning from his ignorance,

    Saying all he does is correct.

  25. وإذا الصبيُّ اعتادَ طبعاً

    في الشبيبة فهْوَ راسبْ

    When a boy is wont to a habit

    In youth he becomes set in his ways.

  26. ليس التطبُّعُ ثابتاً

    كالطبعِ إن الطبعَ لازبْ

    Temperament is not engrained

    Like innate nature firmly stays.

  27. إن لم يُؤَدَّبْ فهْوَ با

    خِعُ نفسِه والطبعُ غالبْ

    If not disciplined, he remains

    Lost to himself, nature prevails.

  28. ما ضَرَّهُ لو أنَّهُ

    من ذنبه أن جاءَ تائبْ

    What loss if he came repentant

    For a fault, regretful and frail?

  29. فلعلَّ ربِّ العرش يق

    بَلُ توبة العدلِ المواظبْ

    Perhaps the Lord of the Throne

    Would accept sincere penitence.

  30. فهو الرحيم بخَلْقِه

    ولخلقِه جَمُّ المواهبْ

    He is Merciful to His creation,

    Bestowing upon them gifts without end.

  31. فارجوه في العُقْبَي فمن

    يرجو سواه فهو خائبْ

    So I hope in Him for the Hereafter,

    Whoever hopes in other is failed.

  32. وعليك بالتقْوَى فتقْوَى

    الله من خير المكاسبْ

    And you must uphold piety -

    Taqwa of God is the greatest gain.

  33. وتعلّم القرآنَ وادرُسْه

    وأكرمْه وواظبْ

    Learn and study the Qur'an,

    Honor it and do it justice.

  34. فهو الصراطُ المستقي

    مُ ودرسُه خير المآدِبْ

    It is the Straight Path -

    Ponder it, a most noble practice.

  35. والنحوَ لا تُهْمِلْهُ فهْ

    وَ أساسُ كل بيانِ كاتبْ

    And neglect not grammar,

    For it is the base of every writer.
