You, my desire, have made me ill

With yearning for the shapely ones

    Soft, delicate, beautiful,

    Bright complexioned, languid eyelids

And for every beauty charming, pleasing

    Exquisite, unique in form

And for every slender, elegant one

    Of splendid, towering stature

And for the joy of gardens where palms

And its trees and the cool shade

My eye said this is not from me

Rather, the heart is intent on sending me

I said: O heart you have unleashed my eye

To graze in the meadows of the shapely ones

My heart said: the ear has informed me

By hearing from it to convey

I said to the ear: how can you listen

To gossip of an image in the market of flirts

Then whisper it to the heart until

    It became distressed and preoccupied

The heart said: the master of every limb

    Is its sultan without contention

So when he wants to manage an affair

Each limb obeys him in action

So we turned to the heart at times and said

You, you are the pivot in every state

It said: I am hidden from everything

I do not know any deed from the deeds

Never does an ear or eye hear

And inform me of women and men

Every limb comes to me with a matter

So I was confused in great preoccupation

    Blame and contention arose from

This one and that and talk grew heated

It was said: there must be an arbiter to judge

    Between the disputants with words

It was said: the body is the judge and it is just

    It is truthfulness in speech

My body said: If my words are acceptable

I have said the truth between you, I do not care

Each of you have cooperated to commit

    Every falsehood and misguidance

So I became ill from your beauty prolonging

    My time fettered in depravities

So fear Allah, O my loved ones, you

If you reform one day my state will reform

So be upright in your life, do not tilt

If you are just, I will be balanced
