كِلانا مُظهرٌ للناسِ بُغضاً

وكلٌّ عندَ صاحبهِ مكينُ

We both feign before people hatred

While to each his friend is devoted

تبلّغنا العيون بما أَردنا

وَفي القلبينِ ثمّ هَوىً دفينُ

Our eyes conveyed what we intended

Yet in both hearts love lies hidden

وَأَسرار اللّواحظِ ليسَ تَخفى

وَقد تغري بِذي الخَطأ الظنونُ

The secrets of glances cannot be concealed

Suspicions mislead the erroneous

وَكَيف يَفوتُ هَذا الناس شيء

وَما في الناسِ تظهرهُ العيونُ

How can anything evade people

When eyes reveal what is within
