زار فؤادي عائداً طرفه

كلاهما في الدهر مضنى قديم

My heart was visited by one whose glance returned,

Though time had rendered both of us forlorn.

فقلت اذ أبصرت حاليهما

مسعجبا عاد السقيم السقيم

When I beheld what fate had done to us,

I marveled that the stricken should return unto the stricken.
