My tears flowed over my cheeks and poured down

And the heat of sorrow has increased in my heart and ignited

And my heart collapsed the day I was told of his death

And the world narrowed around me as my tears fell

And sorrows and worries increased around me

Do not ask about my grieving heart, by Allah

I will cry for him every time dusk grows dark

And neither the bright dawn nor first light has smiled

He was a full moon, beautiful from the start

But after light and glory, he has set

Generous he was, and chief of uncles, a lord

When war’s horses gathered, he showed no dread

Vile enemies with chains surrounded him

Enable torture and iron upon him they put

Oh, would that I had been there, wings outspread

With a white blade that strikes left and right ahead

I'd have left them in the thick of battle, as corpses strewn

Over them the birds circle, on the plains, hills and dunes

By the right of He who the Quraysh circled at His House

And sent Taha and the Chosen as hope’s ultimate goal

I would kill a thousand chiefs of them in the fray’s heat

If the Merciful grants me life and expands my days
