مِسْكُ الصّلاة وأعطارُ السّلام تَلِي

عليكَ تغدو لها الأطيابُ في خَجَلِ

The fragrance of prayer and the perfume of greetings be upon you

Morning and evening, you are adorned with the finest fragrances in shyness

يا رحمةً أُهْدِيَتْ للعالَمين هُدىً

لو لم تكن لم يكن كَوْنٌ بديع حلي

O mercy bestowed upon all worlds, O guidance

If you were not to exist, the magnificent creation would not have existed

يا سيّدي يا شفيعَ الخلقِ قاطبةً

إذ قول كلّ رسول ليس ذلك لِي

O my master, O intercessor of all creation

When every messenger says this role is not for me

إنّا أتيناك في ظُلْمٍ لأنفسنا

مستغفرين من الأثقال في وَجَلِ

We have come to you in the darkness of our own souls

Seeking forgiveness for our heavy burdens in anxiety

فانْظُرْ لزَوْرِكَ واستَغْفِرْ لهم كَرَماً

فإنّ فضلك بالإقبال لم يَزَلِ

So look upon your visitors and forgive them out of generosity

For your grace in welcoming has never ceased

إنّا ضيوفُكَ يا خَيْرَ الأنام قِرىً

ذوُو افتقارٍ إلى ما منك من نُزُلِ

We are your guests, O the best of creation, staying

As those in utter need of your hospitality

جئناك من شَاسِعِ الأقطار يحملُنا

حُسْنُ الرّجَاءِ إلى إحسانك الهَطِلِ

We have come to you from the furthest lands, brought

By the good hope of your abundant generosity

لم نَعْدَمِ الْفَضْلَ مِنْ بُعْدٍ فكيف وقد

صِرْنَا بقربك مثل الشّمس في الحَمَل

We have never been devoid of grace from afar, so how can we now

When we are in your presence like the sun in its height?

يا رحمةَ اللّه في كلّ العوالم يا

محمّدٌ أحمدُ يا أفضلَ الرّسل

O Allah’s mercy in all the worlds, O

Muhammad Ahmad, the most virtuous of messengers

أَتيْتَ بالحقّ مِن عندِ الإله فما

أَخْلَدْتَ فيه إِلى عَجْزٍ ولا كسل

You came with the truth from God, and you

Never persisted in inability or laziness

جاهدتَ حَقَّ جهادٍ في رضاه إلى

أن أَشْرَقَ الدّينُ في سهل وفي جبل

You struggled fully in His pleasure until

The faith shone in plains and mountains alike

وقمتَ للّه في تبليغ ملّته

لم تَخْشَ يوماً ولم تحفل بِمُنْخَذِل

And you stood for God in conveying His nation

Never fearing a day or bothered by deserters

حتّى غَدَتْ مِلّةُ الإسلام ظاهرةً

تعلو على سائر الأديان والمِلَلِ

Until the Islamic nation became manifest

Towering over all other faiths and creeds

وذاك مِصْداقُ ما يُتلى لِيُظْهِرَه

برغم مَعْطَسِ أهل الكفر والخبل

And this is the realisation of what is recited to make it prevail

In spite of the hatred of the disbelievers and foolish

طوبى لِمُتَّبِعٍ نوراً أتيتَ به

يُمشى به في رياض العلم والعمل

Happy is he who follows the light you brought

Walking through it in the gardens of knowledge and work

وَوَيْلُ مَنْ لم يُقم رأسا به فغدا

من خُسرِه في مهاوي الزَّيْغ والزّلل

And woe to those who do not stand tall by it and thus

Become losers, falling into ravines of deviation and error

ها نحن بين يَدَيْ نجواك نشهَد أنْ

لا ربَّ للخلق إلاّ الواحدَ الأزلي

There is no god for creation but the One, the Eternal

And that you are the guided mercy sent from Him to those

وأنَّكَ الرحمةُ المُهداةُ منه لِمَنْ

سواه كيْ يستقيم الأمر عن مَيَل

Other than Him, so that matters may be set right

And that all the news you conveyed is

وأنّ كلَّ الذي بلَّغْتَ من نبإ

حقٌّ وصدقٌ على التفصيل والجُمَل

True and factual in detail and in general

This is our testimony, so pride yourself and whoever

هذي شهادتُنا ذُخْرِي لديك وَمَنْ

يستودعِ المصطفى ما خاب في أمل

Entrusts the Chosen one will never despair

Yes, and I have a need in my heart you know

نعَم ولي حاجةٌ في القلب تعلمُها

لا عَيْشَ لي دونها فاسْمَحْ بعيشك لي

I have no life without it, so allow me your company

Yes, and another that is pressing, and I am not

نعَم وأخرى وقد جلّت ولستُ لها

أَهلاً وأنت الذي نرجوه لِلْجَلَل

Worthy of it, yet you are the one I hope for glory

O how I sought it from those who withhold it

يا كم قصدتُ لها مِمَّنْ يَضِنُّ بها

فكنتُ أَقْنَعُ بعد اليأس بالقفل

Only to accept deprivation after losing hope in locks

And now I have come to you, not blaming anyone

والآن جئتُك لا أُلوي على أحدٍ

أنت الجواد الذي يُعطي بلا مَهَل

You are the generous one who gives without delay

Look upon my humiliation in lovesick longing for you

انظر لذُلّي بسُقم الحبّ عنك فإن

تَنْظُرْ رفلتُ بعزّ الوصل في حُلَل

For if you look, I will be adorned with the honour of union

And have mercy on a heart that fire has touched

وارحم فؤاداً بِنار الفقد مصطلياً

وانظر لدمعٍ من الخسران منهمل

And see tears pouring down in utter loss

The nights of estrangement from me have been long

طالت ليالي الجفا منّي وقد قصرت

يداي عن نزع ما أُلْبِسْتُ من عِلَل

And my hands fell short of removing what ailments clothed me

O my master, life has turned its back and my hands have not

يا سيّدي العمرُ قد ولّى وما ظَفِرَتْ

يدي بِنَيْلِ الذي أعيَتْ له حِيَلى

Attained what I exhausted my tricks to get

I have implored you by the greatest names

إني توسّلت بالأَسْمَا وأَعْظَمِهَا

وكلِّ أمْرٍ يُرى من أعظم الوصل

And by every magnificent matter bonding union

Grant me companionship through the nights so I may

هَبْ لي وِصالا على مرّ اللّيالي لكي

أموتَ والقلبُ في سُكرٍ من الجذل

Die while my heart is intoxicated from the nectar

Blessings upon you from He who told us in His remembrance

عليكَ صلّى الذي في الذكر قال لنا

صلُّوا بِدَمْعٍ مع التّسليم متّصل

“Pray upon him with tears, perpetual”

And may Allah send blessings and peace

وسلّم اللّه تسليماً يفوح له

مِسْكُ الختام مع الإشراق والطّفَل

The seals of which carry musk, dawn and chicks

And pleasure with Abu Bakr, Umar

ثم الرّضى عن أبي بكر وعن عمرٍ

وذي الحياء أبي عمرو كذاك علي

And the bashful Umar and Ali too

And all who love you, O best of creation

وكلّ من بك يا خيرَ الأنام له

تعلّقٌ بانتسابٍ غَيْرِ مُنْفَصِلِ

With a connection of unsevered lineage
