This is the fate of the living among all humankind.
This is the fate of the living, of all mankind
So look upon it with insight, that you may see.
So look upon him with insight, that you may see
This is a tomb where Shakir rests, he who
This is the tomb of one who donned the garb
Bent down the fruit-bearing bough of hopes and glory.
Of one who gained his wishes and glory like a fruitful branch
Oh, how high he rose in standing with kings!
Oh how highly he was regarded in the court of kings
And how fair a sight he was among humankind!
Yet how simply he lived in the wilderness
Then he answered death when it called him,
Then he responded to his Creator's call
And has come as a guest to the door of Him whose favors abound.
And at the door of the Bestower of bounties he presented himself
So call upon God and say, as you mark the date:
So call upon God, and say while recording
A guest has appeared at Your door, hoping for hospitality.
A guest has arrived at Your door, seeking shelter
