Glory’s ornament, Hammuda, whose command holds sway.

  2. A prince—when kings are counted, you see them

As stars, while he is the full moon at midmonth.

  3. Nor is it strange that he surpassed them, though one of them,

For one of the nights is the Night of Decree.

  4. His are illustrious deeds and an ambition that

Has risen so high that the eagle’s height lies beneath it.

  5. His works have indeed proclaimed its loftiness,

And the sanctuary, manifest in glory, bestowed that boon.

  6. Hopes rested on its founding at his hands,

So one who held him dear undertook to carry out this command.

  7. Whatever in affairs is credited to a subordinate

Rightfully belongs to the leader, beyond dispute.

  8. So whoever congratulates the lord on a noble deed brought forth

By his glory shall endure until the end of time.

  9. And for it, from him, was due—once manifest became

Its grandeur—a great measure of thanks.

  10. May the God of the Throne prolong his life in honor,

And grant him success in goodness, in private and in public.

  11. It has not escaped me that my endeavor is a duty

For this happy occasion; yet my excuse is clear.
