    Prevailed over his peers in nobility

  5. لم لا تستعطفن أباً

    كلما استعطفته عطفا

    Why don't you plead with a father

    Whenever you plead with him, he is kind

  6. إنما أنت الصريف فلا

    تك في باب الرجا خزفا

    You are the gentle one, so do not be

    Like pottery at the door of hope

  7. أهل بيتي يبتغون لهم

    كل يومٍ من يدي علفا

    My family seeks from me

    Every day fodder from my hand

  8. كم أعاني في معاشهم

    باختلاص القرض والحرفا

    How much I suffer providing their livelihood

    By stealing loans and craft

  9. يحسبون الخبز مؤتدماً

    بحشيش الهندبا سرقا

    They think bread spoiled

    With grasshoppers is stolen

  10. غير أن الهم أنحلني

    في عيال عكف ضعفا

    But worries dissolved me

    Into a family that clung to weakness

  11. جاعلاً عبد الحسين لهم

    شافعاً حسبي به وكفى

    Making Abd al-Husayn their

    Intercessor, sufficient for me is him

  12. حبذا ذاك الشفيع ومن

    كلما استمطرته وكفا

    Best is that intercessor, and he who

    Whenever I called upon him, sufficed

  13. لو ترى الألحاظ سيرته

    في مجاري فلكه وكفا

    If you could see his conduct

    In the orbits of his realm, it would suffice

  14. ومتى نبتهت رأفته

    غمرتني منة ووفا

    And whenever his kindness sprouted

    It overwhelmed me with bounty and loyalty

  15. كنت أيام التفاتته

    لم أخف من أزمني جنفا

    I spent the days of his care

    Not fearing whoever envied me

  16. وبيوم الصد صيرني

    في نضال الدهر لي هدفا

    And on the day of his indifference

    He made me aimless in the struggle of fate

  17. كم سقاني من سحائبه

    عذب ماءٍ طيباً نطفا

    How much sweet gentle water

    He quenched me from his clouds

  18. يهب المال النفيس فلا

    خزفاً يعطي ولا صدفا

    Bestowing precious wealth, not

    Giving pottery or seashells

  19. أنعم اللَه علي به

    وعلى الناس حمى كنفا

    God has blessed me through him

    And protected people through his care
