  2. أجدد للهوى عهداً وأقضي

    على رغم العذول بها شؤوني

    I renew my pledge of passion

    And pursue my affairs despite the blamer

  3. يحركني الهوى شوقاً إليها

    فيمسي في معالمها سكوني

    Passion moves me, desiring her

    In her signs, my tranquility spends the night

  4. ألا من مبلغ عني سلاماً

    إلى حي بجانبها قطين

    Oh you, who will convey my greeting

    To the beloved neighborhood beside her abode

  5. أنست بأهله وأقمت فيهم

    زماناً أتقيه ويتقيني

    I forgot my family and stayed with them

    For a time I fear while they fear me

  6. وأطعمني الهوى شهداً وغنت

    به ورق السرور على الغصون

    And passion fed me pure honey

    The leaves of joy rustled on the branches

  7. أهيم إذا سمعت حنين ليلى

    إلي فالمغوا ليلى حنيني

    I wander when I hear Layla’s night longing

    To me, so let go of Layla’s longing for me

  8. وحيتوا حيتها عن مستهام

    تحيةٍ مولع فيها ظنين

    And live near her homestead

    The greeting of an obsessed in her delusion

  9. وردي يا أميمة لي بقايا

    فؤاد في منازلها رهين

    Return, my dear, to me, the remnants

    Of a heart hostage in her dwellings

  10. جنون العامري يدور حيناً

    وأطبق في الهوى ليلاً جنوني

    Al-Ammari’s madness circles at times

    And I cloak myself in passion’s madness at night

  11. أميمة عند ذاك الحي ربع

    تنازعنا به سفك الدنون

    Amira is in that beloved neighborhood

    We competed there in shedding tears

  12. مداماً دب في رأسي هواها

    كما دب الرقاد على جفوني

    Her love crept steadily in my head

    As slumber crept over my eyelids

  13. تذكرني فقاقعها أكفاً

    فقاقعها من الدر الثمين

    Her anklets remind me of clinking cups

    Her clinking of precious pearl

  14. وتشبه في تشعشعها لجيناً

    يذب به ابن جعفر عن ديوني

    And they resemble in their brilliance

    The gems with which Ibn Ja’far paid my debts

  15. محمدها وأحمدها صفات

    وإرشادها إلى نهج اليقين

    Her praise, laud, traits

    And guidance to the path of certainty

  16. وأمجدها وأجملها ثناءً

    وأنداها بكالحة السنين

    And I extol and beautify her praise

    And sing her name for years

  17. وهل عذب الثنا في غير فرد

    تعالي عن نظير أو قرين

    Does anything sound sweeter than praising an unmatched

    Sublime, peerless individual?

  18. غني في العلى عن رسم حد

    مطاع في الملا ملك مكين

    Rich, exalted, above depicting limits

    Obeyed in authority, empowered ruler

  19. عليم ينتهي في كل علمٍ

    إلى نفثات جبري الأمين

    Learned, reaching in every science

    To the breaths of the Trustworthy Spirit

  20. يفيض العلم عن بحر غريرٍ

    وينفق منه عن كنز دفين

    Knowledge overflows from a deep, gushing sea

    And it is spent from a concealed treasure

  21. مناقب قد عقدن عليك عزاً

    تكل لديه بإصرة العيون

    Virtues have adorned you with glory

    Eyes weaken to look upon you

  22. سمت ي دولة الملك المفدى

    حسام الدني والعضب اليمين

    You climbed the ladder of the chosen kingship

    Sword of faith and right hand

  23. ورب طوائفٍ مالت سفاهاً

    معاطفها على علج خؤون

    How many misguided hordes

    Drape their mantles over rugged folly

  24. يزخرف من وساوسها أمان

    تمر على المسامع كالطعين

    Whose caprices portray safety

    Passing through hearing like wails

  25. فعالجها أبو حسن بجيش

    يثج صواعق الحرب الزبون

    So Abu Hassan faced them with an army

    Brandishing fierce lightning bolts

  26. وأغمد في جماجمها حساماً

    أقلته يداً ليث العرين

    And sheathed in their skulls a sword

    Wielded by the lion of the lair

  27. حساماً في لظى الهيجاء يتلو

    على فرسانها يا نار كوني

    A sword in the ferocity of carnage

    Reciting "O fire, be coolness and peace" over their horsemen

  28. فتلك رجالهم صرعى وأسرى

    تجزر في السهول وفي الحزون

    There lie their men, slain and captive

    Dragged in the plains and lowlands

  29. وسام حصونه ردماً فأمست

    تنادي أين سكان الحصون

    He besieged their fortresses until they became

    Mounds calling "Where are the fortress dwellers?"

  30. فيا من طالت الأفلاك فيه

    وخبرها عن الرسم المبين

    O you whose loftiness the cosmos praised

    And news of whom the clear method related

  31. رجوتك والكليم أخاك عوناً

    على ديني المبرح بي وديني

    I hoped in you and your brother Moses as a helper

    For my religion through which I live and my faith

  32. فحال الدهر دون أخيك عني

    فيا للدهر صاعقة المنون

    But the times came between me and your brother

    Oh what a lightning bolt is the stroke of death

  33. وأبقاك الزمان علي ظلّاً

    ظليلاً عن نوائبه تقيني

    And time left you for me as a shade

    A shelter from its afflictions protecting me

  34. لك السبق الجلي بكل مجدٍ

    على حلبات أسلاف القرون

    For you is the clear precedence in all glory

    On the racetracks of ancestor generations

  35. ظننت بك الجميل فلا تخيب

    وحقق أيها المولى ظنوني

    I thought well of you, so do not disappoint

    And fulfill, O Master, my hopes

  36. إليك أيها الغرماء عني

    دعوني إن لي أملاً دعوني

    To you - longing diverts me from me

    Let me be, if I have hope, let me be

  37. وكنت إلى الندى كهلاً وطفلاً

    فكان إليك في أملي ركوني

    As a boy and grown man, I inclined

    Toward you, in my hopes, my reliance
