يا سراة الحي ما أشجى النوى

O dwellers of the abode, how painful is longing
For the heart enamored with Muhammad
قد وردتم منهلا يشفى الصدى
وحرمتُ من لذيذ المورد
You have come to a spring that soothes the echo
While I am deprived of the sweet watering place
بردوا بالوصل نار غلتي
وارحموا ظما فؤادي الصدى
Quench with union the fire of my anguish
And have mercy on a heart with a painful echo
ليس لي صبلا ولا لي جلد
قد فنى صبرى وقل جلدى
I have no patience nor endurance
My patience is spent and my endurance little
أرمعوا على الرحيل في غد
ويح قلبي من نواهم في غد
Make haste with departure tomorrow
Woe to my heart from their intentions tomorrow
أسلموا الفؤاد حين سلموا
وثنوا عيسهم عن مقصدي
They surrendered my heart when they bid farewell
And turned their sleek horses from my goal
أوحشوني يوم ساروا سحرا
من لصبري بعدهم وأكبدى
They left me lonesome the morning they traveled
After them, how can I have patience and fortitude?
نار أحزانى فؤادي حرّ قي
دمع أجفاني بخدّى خدّدى
The fire of my sorrows has scorched my heart
The tears of my eyes furrowed my cheeks
يا حمامات اللوى ترنّمي
أسعديني في البكا ورددى
O doves of ardent love, sing to me
Gladden me with weeping and chant to me
شجوُ ذاك الشدو أشجاني فمن
في بكائي وشجوني مسعدى
The longing of the lover has saddened me so who
In my weeping and passions will make me happy?
خيّروا الأحباب أنى مغرم
واحملوا عني صحيح السند
They chose the beloved while I am enamored
Bear from me the proof that verifies
صرت من فرط الغرام مثلا
فاشهدوا أمرى بكل مشهد
I have become an example from excessive love
So witness my state at every stage
عللى في الحب لا تبرى وقد
سئموا شكوى سقامى عوّدى
Do not absolve me for my madness in love though
They are weary of hearing my chronic plaint
فدعوني واتركوا ما بيننا
فهو حسبي وهو لي بالمرصد
So leave me be and what lies between us
For that suffices me and is my watch post
نفس يا نفسي له فسلمي
واركعي ذلا إليه واسجدي
O soul, O my soul, submit to him
And bow to him humbly and prostrate
من مجيري من أليم بعده
من نصيري غيره مَن مرشدي
After him, who can shelter me
Who can guide me but him, who can direct me?
أنت عوني في أموري كلها
أنت يا معنى وجودي موجدي
You are my helper in all my affairs
You are, O essence of my existence, my creator
