I buried my cheek in the dust, humiliated,

While my lament brought joy to the night owl.

My fear of being cut off from you made me despondent,

And brought me disgrace and listlessness.

My poverty pleads for me before you,

Though I have long been your guest.

Does an outcast seek refuge in you?

How can your shade shelter me when it has become so slight?

    Be generous, draw me nearer,

So I, an outcast, may hope to reach you.

If I awake excluded, what can I do

    But shed copious, despairing tears?

When will I approach your camp, and there reap

The fruits of intimacy and acceptance?

For so long, worries have stoked within me

Flames of sorrow that blaze and smolder.

Days of my life have passed,

Leaving lasting sorrow in my heart.

Is there one blessed man who will choose me in my misery,

And bring me joy, and find joy in me?

May the breeze from the garden of generosity blow over me

    And revive this ailing youth.

Take the hand of the poor man, for he hopes

Only in you, to guide him on his way.
