1. تركت امتداح العالمين ولذت من

    مدائح خير الخق بالعروة الوثقا

    I left praising the worlds, and took pleasure in

    Praising the best of creation with firm handle

  2. سأجعلُها كهفى وحصنى وملجئي

    لعلى بالأمداح أستوجب العتقا

    I will make it my cave, my fortress and my refuge

    Perhaps through praise I may deserve emancipation

  3. وأشدو بها في كل ناد مرددا

    أطارح في شجوى واشجاني الورقا

    And chant it in every club repeating

    I shed my leaves in yearning and my branches in ecstasy

  4. وأنتشق الأرواح من نحو يثرب

    فتأرج لي نفحا وتعبق لي نشقا

    And breathe in spirits from the direction of Yathrib

    Sending me a breeze and leaving me a fragrance

  5. قرارة من أضحى ملاذاً وملجأ

    وتربة من في المجد قد أحرز السبقا

    A settlement for one who became a refuge and asylum

    And soil for one who attained precedence in glory

  6. لثمنا بأوهام العقول ترابها

    على نأينا والوجد يغلبنا شوقا

    For the price of our imaginations' soil

    Is our remoteness, while passion overwhelms us with longing

  7. إذا ما سرى من نحو طيبة بارق

    نكاد من الأشواق نعتنق البرقا

    Whenever lightning flashes from the direction of Taybah

    We almost embrace the lightning bolt out of passion

  8. فمن شيق تصلى جوانحه لظى

    ومن واله أكباده قطعت خفقا

    So some hearts flap their wings out of ardor

    And some livers' pulsations are cut off in fervor

  9. فأجسادنا بالغرب تعتنق الأسى

    وأرواحنا راحت بأشواقنا شرقا

    Our bodies in the West embrace sorrow

    While our spirits went to the East in longing

  10. قطعت زماني بالتذكر والأسى

    بلا عيشة تصفو ولا دمعة ترقا

    My life is severed by reminiscence and sorrow

    Without serene living or tears that flow

  11. لئن قطعتني عن بلوغي لقبره

    قواطع تضميني بأسهمها رشقا

    If distances have cut me off from reaching his grave

    With arrows that pierce me with his arrows' perforations

  12. فمالي من حول سوى الدمع والأسى

    عسى منجد السباق يعقبني لحقا

    I have nothing around me but tears and sorrow

    Hopefully the foremost will follow me closely
