1. استبشر الدهر بعد ما استبصر

    فراق منه الرواء والمخبر

    The age rejoiced after it gained insight,

    Parting from it were satiety and the informant.

  2. وجرد الجو ثوب دكنته

    واكتست الارض ثوبها الاخضر

    And the air stripped off its dark robe,

    And the earth dressed in its green attire.

  3. واضحكت عن بديع زهرتها

    لما بكى الغيث قبل واستعبر

    And it smiled, displaying its beautiful blossoms,

    When the rain wept before and turned salty.

  4. ما در در الغمام منتثراً

    الا انتحى الروض نظم ما ينثر

    The scattered clouds did not cease

    To adorn the garden with its dispersed pearls.

  5. ولا انتضى البرق فيه انصله

    الا دم المحل بينها يهدر

    And lightning did not flash through it in vain;

    Rather, it made the locus overflow with its blood.

  6. لولا عقيق البروق حين سرى

    لم يكن الروض يثمر الجوهر

    Were it not for the lightning's carnelian,

    The garden would not have produced gems.

  7. حدائق بل كأنها حدق

    تهجع طوراً وتارة تسهر

    Gardens that were as if they were orbits

    That at times slumber and at times stay awake.

  8. اذا صبت نحوها الصبا فتقت

    للانف مسكاً من ردعها اذفر

    When the morning breeze blows through them, it exudes

    For the nose a musk whose intensity causes sneezing.

  9. ارض تباهي السماء مشرقة

    بكل نجم من زهرها ازهر

    A land priding itself before the sky, illuminated

    With each star of its blossoms more radiant.

  10. وقبل ما فاخرت كواكبها

    بالغر والصيد من بني حمير

    And before its stars vied

    With Aldebaran and the hunters of Banu Hamir,

  11. بكل غيث اذا السماء صحت

    وكل ليث اذا القنا كسر

    With every rain when the sky became healthy,

    And every lion when he broke a spear,

  12. وكل سهم اذا انتحى غرضا

    وكل شهم اذا علا منبر

    And every arrow when it obtained its purpose,

    And every brave warrior when he ascended a pulpit,

  13. بحار جود تفيض من كرم

    ذا المجد بينها الكوثر

    With oceans of generosity that overflow from bounty;

    The possessor of majesty, between them is al-Kawthar.
