قد كانَت الأصنام وهي قديمةٌ
كسرت وجدّعهنَّ إبراهيم
The idols had long existed, ancient as they were;
they were smashed, and Abraham mutilated them.
ولديكَ أصنام سلمنَ من الأذى
وصفَت لهنَ غضارةٌ ونعيم
Yet you have idols that escaped all harm,
their flourishing abundance and ease remaining undimmed.
وبنا إلى صنمِ نلوذ بركنِه
فقرٌ وأنتَ إذا هززت كريمُ
And for an idol in whose protection we may seek refuge,
we have need—and when shaken, you are bountiful.
