1. The truth has plainly dawned, O so-and-so: it is time to journey, to depart.

    And heart and soul have become certain

  2. of returning to the Majestic One. How can safety be mine, dear friend,

    from the grievous consequence of my weighty sin?

  3. O my God and Master, have mercy on this heartsick, ailing one.

    Erase, O Lord, my transgression;

  4. pardon Your humbled servant, spare me, and protect me from all that troubles me.

    Clothe me in Your beautiful protection.

  5. God, my Creator, is enough for me; I desire no substitute for Him.

    He has indeed sufficed me through His grace,

  6. leaving me in need of neither bosom friend nor intimate. Lord, I implore You, O Generous One,

    by Your overflowing, abundant bounty.

  7. Grant me, my Lord, all I seek—its least, my Lord, and its greatest.

    Leave none of it; spare none.

  8. Lord, leave not even a date-stone fiber of what I seek; indeed, I am beneath Your door.

    I shall not turn away from Your door.

  9. Whoever seeks God is not disappointed; He is the best of those who honor a guest.

    Bring my life to its close, my Master,

  10. when departure draws near, through death upon right guidance—

    the creed of the guiding Prophet, the sure guide—

  11. for me, my family, and everyone toward whom my heart has come to incline.

    And blessings joined with peace,

  12. as numerous as crops and date palms, forever upon the Prophet,

    at dawn and at evening,

  13. and upon his Companions, who sacrificed their lives in God’s path,

    and upon his pure family.

  14. Proof of their excellence has come in the Book and in the Hadith;

    so take love for them as an intimate friend—

  15. a shield with which you guard yourself from the anguish of your long Day.

    All praise is Yours, our Lord,

  16. forever, with beautiful acclaim: the praise of a servant confessing his deficiency

    in giving thanks by even a date-stone fiber.
