أحمد السقاف إن شئت الوصال

والظفر بالسول حالا ومآل

Ahmad Al-Saqaf, if you want union

And to attain the heights now and forever

أحمد الله مدى الدهر على

كل ما تلقاه من مر وحال

Thank God throughout time

For all the bitterness and trials you encounter

واعلم أن الخير كله في الرضا

والسخط هو في السخط شر الخصال

And know that all good lies in contentment

While discontent is the worst trait

واتق الله ففي التقوى خبي

كل خير وهي مطلوب الرجال

And fear God for in piety lies

Every good, as sought by men

واطلب العلم ففي العلم الهدى

وبه تنقذ من كل ضلال

And seek knowledge for in it lies guidance

And through it you will be saved from all misguidance

نعمك الخل الذي ما مثله

يهدي الخل إلى خير الخلال

Your blessings are like vinegar which has no equal

It guides the vinegar to the best of vinegars

واعملن بالعلم تدعى عالما

وبه تسعد وترقى للكمال

And act with knowledge to be called learned

And through it you will be happy and reach perfection

ثمرات العلم أعمال التقى

إن عدمها فهو حجه ووبال

The fruits of knowledge are acts of piety

Without them, it is an argument and affliction

واحذر الكبر وأخوات له

تحبط الأعمال توجب للنكال

And beware arrogance and its sisters

Which nullify deeds and warrant retribution

واترك الناس ومل عنهم ففي

ذا الزمن فرض عليك الاعتزال

And leave people and turn away from them for

In these times, isolation is incumbent upon you

لا تخالط يا فتى إلا لما

لا غنى لك عنه من دين ومال

Do not socialize, O youth, except for

What you cannot live without of religion and money

واحذر العادات لا تقربها

إنها سم به داء عضال

And beware habits, do not go near them

For they are a lethal poison of incurable disease

واترك الدنيا فلا تطلبها

غير ستر الحال من مال حلال

And leave this world, do not seek it

Except to cover your condition with lawful money

واغتنم عمرك من قبل الفنا

واغنم الصحة من قبل الكلال

And make the most of your life before demise

And benefit from health before incapacity

صحح النية من قبل العمل

إنما النية روح للفعال

Correct your intention before the deed

For the intention is the spirit of actions

واخلص الأعمال لا تقصد سوى

وجه مولانا الكبير المتعال

And purify your deeds, intending nothing

But the Lord, the Great and Exalted

وتواضع وافن عن كل السوى

واكسب الخير لأيام طوال

And be humble and overlook all others

And earn goodness for many long days

واتبع هدى النبي المصطفى

في اعتقاد وفعال ومقال

And follow the guidance of the Prophet

In belief, deed, and speech

خذ به واعمل به واسلك به

كل شيء غيره فهو ضلال

Take it, act by it, and tread its path

All else is misguidance

واصحب الرفق ولا تعدل به

فهو كاللطف به الخير ينال

And be gentle, do not substitute it

For through it, good is attained

واحذر الخرق وما أشبهه

فهو كالعنف مثير للجدال

And beware roughness and the like

For it stirs up arguments like violence does

جالس العقال واعقل عنهم

حكما فاقت على غالي اللآل

Sit with the reasonable and gain wisdom from them

Judgements have surpassed those of precious pearls

حسن الأخلاق يحيا سالما

ومافى من معاداة الرجال

Good morals allow one to live in peace

Safe from the enmity of men

وسع البال وطوله فقد

فاز بالخيرات من بالخلق طال

Broaden your mind and lengthen it, for one

With an apt disposition has won abundant good

واعرف الوقت وكن قرما ولا

تهمل الحزم فتنشب في الحبال

And know time, be vigilant, and do not

Neglect wisdom, lest you fall into traps

يكفي الإنسان ما قد ذاقه

أورآه إن يكن صاحب بال

What a person has tasted or seen suffices them

If they are reasonable

واذكر الرحمن يذكرك وفي

ذكره غرس تجده في المآل

And remember the Beneficent, and He will remember you

And in remembering Him lies a planted tree you will find in the end

وعذاب الله لا انجي لنا

منه من ذكر المهيمن ذي الجلال

There is no savior for us from God's torment

Except remembering the Supreme Lord of Majesty

والصلاة خير موضوع أتى

عن رسول الله في اسناد عال

Prayer is the best position conveyed

From the Messenger of God with an exalted line of transmission

واحفظ القول فماكب الورى

في جهنم غير أقوال رذال

And guard your words, for the keeper of all

In Hellfire are nothing but vile words

فاصمت اسكت لا تقل شيأ سوى

قول خير يرتجي منه نوال

So stay silent, do not say anything but

Good words from which attainment is hoped

واذكر الموت عسى تعمل له

عملا ينجيك في يوم السؤال

And remember death, perhaps you will act for it

A deed that will save you on the Day of Reckoning

واقصر الآمال لا تبسطها

إنه آتيك يوما لا محال

And shorten your hopes, do not extend them

For a day will come to you, no doubt

واسأل الرحمن دأبا سرمدا

وتذلل في تضرع وابتهال

And ask the Beneficent constantly forever

And humble yourself in supplication and petition

وافتقار وانكسار دائما

للعظيم ذي الجلال والجمال

And poverty, humility, and constant

Lowliness to the Almighty Lord of Majesty and Beauty

ربنا يا ربنا اغفر ذنبنا

واعف عن أوزارنا الجم الثقال

Our Lord, O our Lord, forgive our sins

And pardon our heavy burdens of sin

واصلح القلب ليصلح أمرنا

كله دنيا وأخرى بالكمال

And reform the heart so all our affairs may be reformed

Worldly and of the Hereafter in perfection

إن قلبي قد عراه سقم

ولهى عن طلب الخير ومال

For my heart has been laid bare by illness

And distracted from seeking good and wealth

هب لنا نورا وعقلا كاملا

وافر انبلغ به أعلى المعال

Bestow upon us perfect abundant light and intellect

To attain through it the highest degrees

وقنا الاسوا وجنبنا الهوى

واجعل التقوى غذانا والزلال

And protect us from wrongdoing and distance us from passions

And make piety our nourishment and fresh water

رب ثبتنا على دين النبي

خير خلقك أحمد مولى بلال

O Lord, make us steadfast on the religion of the Prophet

The best of Your creations, Ahmad, master of Bilal

صلوات الله تغشاه وتغشى

النبيين وأصحاب وآل

May God's prayers and peace be upon him, enveloping

The Prophets, companions, and family

وسلام الله في كل نفس

عدد الأنفاس ما دمن الليال

And may God's peace be upon every soul

As numerous as breaths, as long as there are nights

ولك الحمد إلهي دائما

عدد النعمى وما سرن الجمال

And to You belongs praise eternally, my God

As numerous as blessings and however long beauty lasts

وادع لي أحمد عسى أحمد غدا

يوم لاينفع ما أو عيال

And invoke blessings upon Ahmad, perhaps Ahmad tomorrow

A day in which neither wealth nor family will avail

غير من يأتي بقلب طاهر

وسليم هكذا قال تعال

Except one who comes with a pure

And unblemished heart, thus said the Exalted
