ماذا يقول الناس في طريق

مبداه طهر القلب بالتحقيق

What do people say on the path

Its principle is to purify the heart through investigation

عما سوى الله العظيم ربنا

يارب طهر قلبنا ياحسبنا

Of anything other than Allah, our Great Lord

O Lord, purify our hearts, O our Reckoner

وعقده استغراق كل القلب

بذكر مولانا الكريم ربي

And its bond is to occupy the whole heart

With the mention of our Generous Lord

وختمه الفناء بالكليه

في الله ربي خالق البريه

And its end is annihilation completely

In Allah, my Lord, Creator of mankind

هذه طريق الأنبيا والرسل

وأولياء الله أهل الفضل

This is the path of the prophets and messengers

And the saints of Allah, the people of virtue

ثم اعلموا أن صلاح القلب

أن لا يحب الشخص غير الرب

Then know that the purification of the heart

Is that a person loves none but the Lord

تصير قرة عينه العباده

لأجلها يترك كل عاده

Worship becomes the delight of his eye

For it he leaves every habit

يرى معاصي الله نارلا محرقه

وكالسموم والمياه المغرقه

He sees the disobedience of Allah as a blazing fire

And like poisons and drowning waters

وكل قلب فيه ميل للسوى

فإنه يا صاح عبد للهوىء

And every heart inclining to other than Him

Then it, oh friend, is a slave to passions

وإن أردت طلب الكمال

والفوز في العقبى وفي المآل

And if you want to seek perfection

And success in the hereafter and in the destination

عليك بالعزلة بالرمال

وبالتخلي باطن الجبال

You must have solitude in the sands

And detachment in the interior of mountains

وادفن وجودك داخل الخمول

واترك جميع الناس والفضول

And bury your existence in heedlessness

And leave all people and their nonsense

واذكرإلهك وأنس ما سواه

في كل وقت وانف ما عداه

And remember your God and be intimate with none but Him

At every time and breathe none but Him

وإن أتى أمر من الرحمن

فارض به تفوز بالرضوان

And if a command comes from the Merciful

Then be content with it, you will winapproval

والمرء مكلوء بعين الله

وبالنعم مغمور وهو ساهي

And man is laden with the eye of Allah upon him

And with blessings overwhelmed though he is heedless

فواجب عليه شكر الرب

وصبره عند البلا والكرب

So it is obligatory upon him to thank the Lord

And have patience during tribulation and hardship

والصبر رأس الخير والإيمان

وهو عزيز عند الإمتحان

And patience is the head of goodness and faith

And it is mighty during trials

فليحذر الشخص من التبرم

وكثرة الشكوى لدى التألم

So let the person beware of complaining

And excessive lamenting during pain

وليلتجي إلى العليم القادر

بقلبه وسره والظاهر

And let him turn to the All-Knowing, All-Powerful

With his heart and innermost and outwardly

وليعتمد عليه في جميع

أموره من هين أو رفيع

And let him depend on Him in all

His matters, insignificant or lofty

وليشهد الخيرة في القضاء

وفي جميع الضر والبلاء

And let him perceive the wisdom in destiny

And in all harm and tribulation

وليحسن الظن بذي الإحسان

ذي الفضل والجود عظيم الشان

And let him think good of the Benevolent One

Of abundant grace and lofty stature

ولا يسىء ظنا ولا يستبطي

إجابة من الكريم المعطي

And let him not suspect or complain

Of the response from the Generous Giver

واعلم بأن كل شيء بسبب

وللسبب وقت وعمر مكتتب

And know that everything is for a reason

And for that reason there is an appointed time

وكل ضيق سوف يتلوه فرج

ويأتي اليسر وينزاح الحرج

And every distress is followed by relief

Ease comes and hardship departs

واقنع من الدنيا بما تيسر

ودع لمازاد وما تعسر

And be content with what is made easy of this life

And leave what is beyond and difficult

ومن تيقن أن مولاه يراه

استحيا ان يرجو ويخشى من سواه

And whoever is certain that his Master sees him

Would be shy to hope or fear anyone but Him

ومن تيقن نظر الله إليه

لم يخترالا كل ما يقضي عليه

And whoever is certain of Allah's gaze upon him

Would choose only what He decrees for him

والنافع الضار المهيمن ربنا

فاحذر تخاف غيره يامؤمنا

The Harmful, the Beneficial, our Guardian Lord

So beware fearing others, O believer

واترك جميع الناس لا تعبأ بهم

أيضا ولا تركن إلى إخائهم

And leave all people, pay them no heed

Nor rely on or incline toward them

فإنهم لا يملكون برا

لنفسهم أو يدفعون ضرا

For they cannot benefit themselves

Or ward off harm for their own souls
