متى متى إلى الوطن تعودون

When, when O Yasa will you be heard

When, when will you return to the homeland

يا سادة حلوا بقرب دمون

كم وسط زنبل من أمام مدفون

O masters, settle near Damascus

How many amidst trouble are buried in front

صافي مصفى بالغرام مشحون

لفقده أهل المعرفة يحنون

Pure, sincere, filled with passion

For losing them, the people of knowledge yearn

آل الغبي المتقون الأخيار

أهل المعارف والصفا والأسرار

The people of virtue, the righteous, the chosen ones

The people of knowledge, purity, and secrets

أهل المحبة والهدى والأنوار

كم سر فيهم مكتتم ومصيون

The people of love, guidance, and light

How many secrets in them concealed and protected

بيت الندى والعلم والعباده

بيت الشرف والفضل والسياده

The home of dew, knowledge, and worship

The home of honor, merit, and leadership

بيت الرضا والأنس والزهاده

من حبهم سعدو ومن يحبون

The home of contentment, intimacy, and asceticism

Those who love them prospered and those they love

تراهم في الليل في المساجد

ما بين قائم خاشع وساجد

You see them at night in mosques

Standing reverently or prostrating

وذاكر مراقب مشاهد

إذ أفنوا في ذكرهم يذوبون

Remembering, observant, witnessing

As they dissolve in His remembrance

وكم لهم أحوال أي أحوال

تصان عن أهل الهوى والأنذال

How many states, oh what states

Safeguarded from the vulgar and base

ما شانها المخرج ولا التبذال

لم يدرها مثلي غبي مغبون

Neither for disclosure nor waste

The likes of me, ignorant, has not grasped

ولم أطق وصف الذي عرفته

من شانهم أيضا وما خبرته

I cannot describe what I have known

Of their condition, nor what I have heard

وما تحققته وما سبرته

من المكارم ذي لها يعانون

Or verified or probed

Of their virtues they endure

وكم ببكدر والغريط سادات

أهل الورع والفقه والعبادات

How many noble men of piety

Of knowledge, worship, and devotion

وكم أتت في فضلهم مقالات

وصدق فيهم كلما يقولون

And how many verses on their merit

All they say is true and honest

والأنبيا والأوليا أهل الإحسان

يكون كانيهم باين ما كان

The prophets and saints, people of kindness

Their essence was manifest, nothing was concealed

فرض علينا حبهم للإيمان

أوثق عراه عندما يعدون

Loving them is an obligation of faith

The strongest of ties when pledged

إني أحب الصالحين الأخيار

عسى يقع لي وسط دورهم دار

I love the righteous and the chosen

Hopefully a home amidst theirs I attain

أكون معهم وأكن لهم جار

تفوز معهم عند ما يفوزون

To be with them and be their neighbor

Triumph with them when they triumph

عسى من أخلاق الكرام أخلاق

نذوقها مثل الذي لها ذاق

Hopefully of the manners of the noble, manners

We experience, like those who have tasted

ونرتوي من الذي لهم راق

نحوز في العقبى الذي يحوزون

And quench from what has quenched them

Attain in the hereafter what they attain

عسى من فضل واسع الجود

أحظى بمطلوبي بغير مجهود

Hopefully from vast generous grace

I attain my hopes without toil

وأحتوى من قرب رب معبود

يفوق ما هذا العرب يظنون

And gain proximity of the worshipped Lord

Beyond what these Arabs can fathom

إني طلبت الله ما طلبتك

يالائمي كلا ولا قصدتك

I sought You, not them my blamer

No, I did not intend you

بالشح والبخل لقد عرفتك

فلست أسمع للذي يلومون

With miserliness and stinginess I have known you

So I do not heed those who blame

إني وإن كنت كثير الأوزار

أرجو كريم الوجه خير غفار

Though laden with sins I may be

I hope in the Benevolent Forgiver

يغفر ذنوبي جهرها والأسرار

يفك من هو بالذنوب مرهون

To forgive my overt and covert sins

And release me from sins shackled

فهل ترى تسعدني الليالي

ويأذن الرحمن باتصالي

Will you see nights make me joyous

And the Merciful allow my ascent

وارتقى كل مقام عالي

بمحض فضل الله باري الكون

And I reach every lofty station

By the sheer grace of God, the Creator

يا رب ياتواب تب علينا

ولا تؤاخذنا بما جنينا

Oh Lord, oh Accepter of repentance, turn to us

And do not take us to account for what we harvested

مما كتمناه وما أبدينا

يارب إني قلت قول ذي النون

Of what we concealed and disclosed

Oh Lord, I said the words of Thul-Nun

واختم لنا عند الممات بالخير

وكن لنا حال المقام والسير

And seal for us at death with good

And be for us in sojourn and travel

ولا تكلنا للنفوس والغير

ولا نرى باسا ولا نرى هون

Entrust us not to the souls and others

And we see no misery or humiliation

والفاصلاة الله مع سلام

على النبي المصطفى التهامي

And prayers and peace be upon

The chosen Prophet, the perfecter

وآله وصحبه الكرام

وكل من دان بما يدينون

And his family and noble companions

And all who believe in what they believe
