1. أسرفن في هجري وفي تعذيبي

    وأطلن موقف عبرتي ونحيبي

    They were excessive in estranging me and tormenting me

    And prolonged my state of lamenting and wailing

  2. وأبين يوم البين وقفة ساعة

    لوداع مشغوف الفؤاد كئيب

    And made clear the stance of my crying and moaning

    To bid farewell for an hour to the beloved of my heartened, saddened one

  3. لله عهد الظاعنين وغادروا

    قلبي رهين صبابة ووجيب

    To God is the covenant of the assailants, and they left

    My heart a hostage to youthfulness and affection

  4. غربت ركائبهم ودمعي سافح

    فشرقت بعدهم بماء غروب

    Their mounts departed while my tears poured

    So I shone after them with the water of sunset

  5. يا ناقعاً بالعتب غلة شوقهم

    رحماك في عذلي وفي تأنيبي

    O you who laments the ignorance of their passion

    Have mercy on my blaming and my reproach

  6. يستعذب الصب الملام وإنني

    ماء الملام لدي غير شروب

    The lover finds blame pleasant, while I

    Have nothing but the water of blame as my drink

  7. ما هاجني طرب ولا اعتاد الجوى

    لولا تذكر منزل وحبيب

    No delight moved me, nor did passion grow accustomed

    If not for memories of a house and beloved

  8. أهفو إلى الأطلال كانت مطلعاً

    للبدر منهم أو كناس ربيب

    I yearn for the ruins that were once

    A rising place for the full moon or nestling of a beloved

  9. عبثت بها أيدي البلى وترددت

    في عطفها للدهر أي خطوب

    The hands of time have toyed with it and it echoes

    In its embrace - what misfortunes of time!

  10. تبلى معاهدها وإن عهودها

    ليجدها وصفي وحسن نسيبي

    Its covenants decay though its vows

    My words will find them good and fine relatives

  11. وإذا الديار تعرضت لمتيم

    هزته ذكراها إلى التشبيب

    And if the abode turns away from a lover

    It shakes him with its memories, back to his youth

  12. إيه عن الصبر الجميل فإنه

    ألوى بدين فؤادي المنهوب

    Oh, my patience was in vain, for it

    Destroyed the faith of my plundered heart

  13. لم أنسها والدهر يثني صرفه

    ويغض طرفي حاسد ورقيب

    I do not forget it though time continues its course

    And jealous, watchful eyes avert mine

  14. والدار مونقة محاسنها بما

    لبست من الأيام كل قشيب

    The abode is adorned, its beauties with what

    Every dried-up era dressed it in

  15. يا سائق الأظعان يعتسف الفلا

    ويواصل الأسآد بالتأويب

    O rider of camels that roam the emptiness

    And bid farewell at nightfall

  16. متهافتاً عن رحل كل مذلل

    نشوان من أين ومس لغوب

    Scattered from a journey, every disgraced

    Delighted one - where did he come from and when did he arrive?

  17. تتجاذب النفحات فضل ردائه

    في ملتقاها من صباً وجنوب

    The breezes blow the edges of his cloak

    Where they meet, from the north and south winds

  18. إن هام من ظمإ الصبابة صحبه

    نهلوا بمورد دمعه المسكوب

    If they swoon from the youthfulness of his companions

    Who drank at the spring of his poured tears

  19. أو تعترض مسراهم سدف الدجى

    صدعوا الدجى بغرامه المشبوب

    Or their journey was blocked by night's veil

    They tore through the veil with fervent passion

  20. في كل شعب منية من دونها

    هجر الأماني أو لقاء شعوب

    In every path, without him, a wish

    Abandons hopes or meets other desires

  21. هلا عطفت صدورهن إلى التي

    فيها لبانة أعين وقلوب

    Why did they not incline their hearts to her

    In whom are radiant eyes and hearts?

  22. فتؤم من أكناف يثرب مأمناً

    يكفيك ما تخشاه من تثريب

    So you take refuge in the bosoms of Yathrib

    Sheltering you from what you fear of blame

  23. حيث النبوة أيها مجلوة

    تتلو من الآثار كل غريب

    Where the prophecy, O radiant one

    Recites the tales to every stranger

  24. سر عجيب لم يحجبه الثرى

    ما كان سر الله بالمحجوب

    A wondrous secret the soil did not conceal

    What was God's secret was not veiled

  25. إني دعوتك واثقاً بإجابتي

    يا خير مدعو وخير مجيب

    I called upon you confident in my supplication

    O best of those called and best of those who respond

  26. قرت في مدحي فإن يك طيباً

    فبما لذكرك من أريج الطيب

    You were pleased with my praise, and if it is good

    It is due to the fragrance of praise of your mention

  27. ماذا عسى يبغي المطيل وقد حوى

    في مدحك القرآن كل مطيب

    What more could the prolonger seek when

    The Quran contains every sweetness in your praise?

  28. يا هل تبلغني الليالي زورة

    تدني إلي الفوز بالمرغوب

    O nights, will you take me to attain

    What I hope for and desire?

  29. أمحو خطيئاتي بإخلاصي بها

    وأحط أوزاري وإصر ذنوبي

    I erase my sins with my devotion to them

    And I remove my burdens and curb my sins

  30. في فتية هجروا المنى وتعودوا

    إنضاء كل نجيبة ونجيب

    Among youths who deserted wishes and returned

    To kindle each brilliant man and woman

  31. يطوي صحائف ليلهم فوق الفلا

    ما شئت من خبب ومن تقريب

    They fold the pages of their night atop the emptiness

    However much you wish of joys and intimacies

  32. إن رنم الحادي بذكرك رددوا

    أنفاس مشتاق إليك طروب

    If the guide mentions you, they repeat

    The breaths of one longing for you, refreshed

  33. أو غرد الركب الخلي بطيبة

    حنوا لمغناها حنين النيب

    Or the beloved caravan sings your name sweetly

    They sings its melody, the yearning of the Prophet

  34. ورثوا اعتساف البيد عن آبائهم

    إرث الخلافة في بني يعقوب

    Inheriting the roaming of the land from their fathers

    The inheritance of succession among the children of Jacob

  35. الطاعنين الخيل وهي عوابس

    يغشى مثار النقع كل سبيب

    Assailants whose horses frown

    Veiling the fruits of palm trees, every unripe one

  36. والواهبين المقربات صوافناً

    من كل خوار العنان لعوب

    Granters whose horses are docile

    From every deaf, playful rein

  37. والمانعين الجار حتى عرضه

    في منتددى الأعداء غير معيب

    Preventers of harm to neighbors until

    Their integrity among enemies is flawless

  38. تخشى بوادرهم ويرجى حلمهم

    والعز شيمة مرتجى ومهيب

    Fearing their threats and hoping for their forbearance

    Might is the nature of the hoped for and revered

  39. سائل به طامي العباب وقد سرى

    تزجيه ريح العزم ذات هبوب

    Asking through him the scattering of calamities that traveled

    Blown by the winds of resolve and gales

  40. تهديه سهب أسنة وعزائم

    يصدعن ليل الحادث المرهوب

    Guiding him are the edges of swords and resolves

    That crack the feared night open

  41. حتى انجلت ظلم الضلال بسعيه

    وسطا الهدى بفريقها المغلوب

    Until the darkness of misguidance melted through his efforts

    And truth triumphed through its defeated faction

  42. يا بن الألى شادوا الخلافة بالتقى

    واستأثروك بتاجها المغصوب

    O son of the exalted ones who established the caliphate through piety

    And endowed you alone with its usurped crown

  43. جمعوا لحفظ الدين أي مناقب

    كرموا بها في مشهد ومغيب

    They gathered to protect the faith whatever

    Virtues honored you, unseen or seen

  44. لله مجدك طارفاً أو تالداً

    فلقد شهدنا منهن كل عجيب

    To God be your glory, departing or remaining

    For we have witnessed every wondrous thing from them

  45. كم رهبة أو رغبة بك والعلى

    تقتاد بالترغيب والترهيب

    How much awe or desire in you and the exalted

    Leads with encouragement and deterrence

  46. لا زلت مسروراً بأشرف دولة

    يبدو الهدى من أفقها المرقوب

    Still delighted with the noblest state

    Where guidance rises on its watched horizon

  47. تحيي المعالي غادياً أو رائحاً

    وحديد سعدك ضامن المطلوب

    It revives glories whether you come or go

    And your good fortune guarantees what is sought
