They came in splendor of dress, so they were stripped bare

The gazes of misfortune looked upon the swooping of fate

Longing wove from the remnants of pottery a turban

And well-being that mocks the gloomy sufferer

The waistband of the robe conveyed me censure

And my loose outer garment betrayed scattered, evident impairment

Like brilliances of the pearl necklace pouring forth

At night over the turbulent, swimming gulf

And the undulations of the breasts contested its embrace

A banner like the zigzag of the zealous stud

You have brought me the glory of position and cared for me

The heart of time and protected the face of my praises

To God belongs our abode which is of the kind

To drag spears over the towering adversary
