1. يا ساقي قضيبُ الرند ريانُ

    والبدر ملتحفٌ والصبح عريانُ

    O cupbearer, the libertine's rod is drenched

    And the moon dons a turban, and dawn is bare

  2. وللصبا عثراتٌ لا تقال وفي

    سجع الحمائم ترجيعٌ وإرنان

    The youth has stumbles that cannot be told, and in

    The turtledoves' chant there is singing and cooing

  3. فغالباً نفثتي بالراح واختلسا

    عقلي فقد نفح النسرين والبان

    So I often breathed the wind and secretly stole

    My mind, so the two breezes blew and were perfumed

  4. واسترجعا لمتي واستنفدا طربي

    قبل الشروق فللأطراب أوطان

    And regained my sobriety and exhausted my rapture

    Before sunrise, for raptures have homelands

  5. وعرضا بهوى لبني فلي ولها

    وللزجاجة إن عرضتما شان

    And they presented passion to the Bani, so to it and to her

    And to the flask, if you two present a matter

  6. اليأس وردي إذا سحبُ المنى هطلت

    والصبر زادي إذا أهل الحمى بانوا

    Despair is my rose when wishes are withdrawn

    And patience my provision when the ardently amorous become manifest

  7. ها إن حلبة أرض الله شوط فتى

    في بسطتي يده بطشٌ وإحسانُ

    Behold, the arena of God's earth has a youth's lap

    In my palm his grasp is tyranny and beneficence

  8. لله ثم لشاهنشاه خلفتها

    ما طل في رملات القاع حوذان

    To God, then to the Shah of Shahs, His regent

    No tall one in the sands of the desert endures

  9. إن كان للفلك العلوي مرتكضٌ

    فيها فللفلك الأرضي سلطانُ

    If the celestial sphere has a pacer

    In it, the terrestrial sphere has a sultan
