كساك الصوم أعمار الليالي

وأعقبك العنيمة في المآب

Fasting has worn away the nights' lifetimes,

And wakefulness has succeeded at the place of rest.

فلا زالت سعودك في خلودٍ

تبارى بالمدى يوم الحساب

Yet your good fortune remains eternal,

Transcending the expanse on Judgment Day.

أتاك العز يسحب برديته

على ميثاء حالية التراب

Glory has come to you, spreading its scroll

Over the lofty summit of the dust.

ببدرٍ من بني الزهراء سارٍ

تعرّى عنه جلباب السحاب

With a full moon from the Family of Zehra, passing

As the clouds unveil it.

تفرّع في النبوة ثم ألقى

بضبعيه إلى خير الصحاب

It branched into prophethood, then cast

Its forelegs toward the best of companions.

تلاقت لابن عبادٍ فروع ال

نبوة والوزارة في نصاب

For the son of 'Ibad, branches of

Prophecy and ministry came together.

فلا تغررْ برقدته الليالي

ولا تشخذْ له الهمم النوابي

So do not be fooled by its resting nights,

Nor let the lofty ambitions awaken you.

فمن خضعت له الأسد الضواري

ترقّع عن مراوغة الذئاب

For when savage lions submit to him,

The wolves cease their cunning.
